Amar Upadhyay's stint in Ekta Kapoor's famous serial, Kyunki Saas BHi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is known to all. Within the first few episodes, he became the heartthrob of the entire nation. However, when his character 'Mihir' died in the show, the entire nation broke down. In the early 2000s, the Indian audience was naive, and they would relate to a character as if it were their own story or family. Recently, Amar revealed how the nation reacted to his death scene.
In an interview with ABP News, Amar Upadhyay talked about the outburst in the people when his character in the show died. He revealed that the office was flooded with letters and e-mails from people on the morning of the death of 'Tulsi Virani's husband, Mihir Virani'. He was quoted as saying:

"Ektaa had hyped the entire episode of Mihir dying so much that when it finally happened, it was chaos all over. When the episode first aired, I remember my mother watching it and crying and I was like, 'I am alive, sitting right next to you'. Late in the night, I got a call from Balaji Telefilms that their e-mail servers had crashed and telephone lines were jammed as there was a massive outcry over Mihir's death."
Amar revealed that he had to go to the office at 2 a.m. to answer multiple phone calls. He had to assure people that he was alive and that only his character had died. Yes, the early '2000s were a time of people living simple lives and believing everything they see on television.
Amar recalled another shocking incident when women dressed up in white sarees came to his home. They were left shocked when he opened his door when Amar's mother questioned them, those women revealed they had come to mourn 'Mihir's' death. Recalling his mother's reaction, Amar said:
"I woke up and the doorbell rang. There were 15-20 women standing outside my house, all dressed in white sarees. As they saw me, they were shocked. When my mother prodded them further, they said that they had come to mourn Mihir's death. My mother was furious. She scolded them and shooed them away."
For the unversed, Amar's character 'Mihir Virani' became extremely popular. He played the husband of 'Tulsi Virani', played by Smriti Irani. After being a part of the cult show for a year, he quit the show in 2001, but the TRPs of the show went instantly down. Later, he was brought back to the show. However, he finally quit it in 2002, following a generation gap.
