Amaal Mallik Recalls His Breakup In 'Bigg Boss 19', 'I Was About To Perform On Stage When My Ex...'

Amaal Mallik is an Indian music director who rose to prominence by composing songs for the movie, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. Recently, the singer entered the Bigg Boss 19 house as a contestant. In the latest episode of the Colors TV reality show, there were captaincy tasks, and there was fallout between Kunickaa Sadanand and Gaurav Khanna. During the same episode, singer and music composer Amaal Mallik, opened up about his past relationship and recalled how he had dealt with it.

Amaal Mallik recalls his past relationship on Bigg Boss 19

In the latest episode of Bigg Boss 19, Amaal Mallik recalled his past relationship and shared how he met her with Ashnoor Kaur, Mridul Tiwari and Zeishan Quadri. He shared that it was during a show, when he got a call from his ex-girlfriend, who told him to come to her wedding and take her away. But it was Amaal’s decision to let her go. He revealed that whenever he needs to compose a heartbreak song, he mentally takes himself back seven years. In his words:

"Whenever I’m asked to compose a heartbreak song, I mentally take myself back to seven years ago. At that time, I was about to perform on stage when my ex kept calling, telling me she was getting married and that if I came, she wouldn’t go through with it. But my parents were against it, so I refused. I told myself I had to think of my mom and dad’s respect, and I let her go."

Amaal shared that he met his ex-girlfriend, when they were teenagers. However, she got married to another guy, whom she couldn’t love. He also opened up about how his ex-girlfriend’s husband and friends approached him and took him to a corner to have a word. Her husband told the singer-composer that his wife couldn’t love him as she couldn’t move on from her previous relationship. Hearing this, Amaal explained the whole matter to his ex-girlfriend. He was quoted as saying:

"I was performing at a wedding and he and his friends picked on me at a corner and aake he said tune ye kar diya meri shaadi hogayi hai par woh mujhe dekhti tak nahi hai... I told him to give me the phone, and I'll talk to her. I told her, 'Don't do all this, it is too late now, and there's no point.' Later, he met me somewhere and thanked me. That's what happened when Kabir Singh was happening, I was going through that."

When Amaal Mallik shared about his past relationship that came to an end due to his religion and career

In July 2025, Amaal Mallik sat for an interview with Siddharth Kannan, where he spoke openly about his past relationship. He shared that the relationship started in 2014 and continued till 2019. He mentioned that his ex’s parents were not okay with his religion and his Bollywood career. He was quoted as saying:

"We were in a relationship from 2014 to 2019. But her parents were against my religion and career. They didn’t want to associate their daughter with anyone from this industry."
