However, on December 13, 2024, the actor had been making headlines after being arrested in connection to a tragic stampede case during the premiere of Pushpa 2. A similar incident took place recently outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL win. Following the tragic incident, now a new trend has started on X (formerly Twitter) involving the demand for arrest of RCB captain, Virat Kohli. Netizens gave mixed reactions to the trend.

For the unversed, on June 4, 2025, RCB lifted the IPL trophy after 18 years. The team defeated the Punjab Kings in the finals. After their historic win, a huge crowd gathered outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium to join the celebration of RCB's IPL victory. However, soon the joyous moment turned into a tragic one, claiming 11 innocent lives during a stampede. Soon after the tragic incident, the IPL team, RCB, released an official statement, expressing their deep anguish over the tragic event.

Later, RCB marketing head, Nikhil Sosale was arrested in connection to Bengaluru tragic stampede case. Now, a new trend has started on X (formerly Twitter), 'Arrest Virat Kohli.' Netizens gave mixed reactions to the ongoing 'Arrest Virat Kohli' trend, while some compared the recent stampede case to the stampede that happened during the Pushpa 2 premiere and demanded the arrest of Virat Kohli as Telugu star, Allu Arjun was also arrested in connection to the 2024 stampede case.

Netizens’ reaction to the ‘Arrest Virat Kohli’ trend

The trend involving the demand for Virat Kohli’s arrest in connection to the recent stampede outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru got mixed reactions from the netizens. In a sarcastic tone, one user wrote, “Who was arrested after kumbh 2025?? Who was arrested after pahal gai attack (Pahalgam)?? Y r only innocent people are targeted? Just like #kohli and #AlluArjun … Dear #ViratKohli enjoy your trophy #arrestkholi." A comment of a Virat fan can be read as:

"Stop targeting #ViratKohli sir He is not one to be blamed. Accuse those who created a mess leading to a tragedy in Bengaluru and RCB ‘s celebration ruined by stampede Similar to #AlluArjun sir’s case. Please try to understand Rohit fans."

Just like having fans, celebrities, too, have haters. An RCB hater demanded the arrest of RCB captain, Virat Kohli and wrote, "Just like #AlluArjun #Kohli should be arrested Only cause this shameless creature has no humanity most selfish human in history. For him winning/celebrating for #RCB is more important human lives. #ArrestKohli." Demanding equal treatment for both the celebs, Virat and Allu, as both fell prey to a similar incident, one user wrote, "Rules Sabke liye hona chahiye? #Rcb #Viratkohli #AlluArjun."

When Allu Arjun was arrested

On December 4, 2024, a horrific stampede happened at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre, which cost the life of the 39-year-old mother, Revathi and left her 8-year-old son, Sri Tej, critically injured. The tragic incident took place when Telugu superstar, Allu Arjun paid a hall visit for his movie, Pushpa 2, and an uncontrolled rush of fans tried to catch a glimpse of the actor. Following the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13. The actor was granted an interim bail on the same day and released on December 14, 2024. Later on December 24, 2024, the actor held a press conference and publicly addressed the incident.
