Alia Bhatt’s sister, Shaheen Bhatt, is certainly one member of the Bhatt clan who prefers to stay out of limelight. Nonetheless, the star-daughter is equally talented and is a screenwriter as well as an author of books. Moreover, Shaheen grabbed headlines after she took the bold decision and came upfront about her battle with depression, a topic that has been pressed under much stigma in our society even today. And recently, Shaheen talked about another unheard facet of her life.
In a candid revelation on her mental health platform, Here Comes The Sun, Shaheen Bhatt divulged about an unheard facet of her life and revealed how she fell prey to depression right during her growing-up years. She highlighted the lack of awareness about the poignant mental health issue back then, due to which she couldn’t really explain to people about her challenges. In her words:
“Depression started when I was very young, I was about 12… 11 or 12. At that time, there was no emotional vocabulary. Even depression was not really being talked about when I was growing up.”

Moving forth in her revelation, Shaheen then narrated how back as a child, she always felt out of place, and thought there was something odd about her. She expressed feeling sad all the time, and compared why everyone else was jovial, and she wasn’t. Talking about her feeling isolated from her family and friends, Shaheen said:
“I didn’t really know what I was going through. Growing up, I was like oh I am an odd kid. There is something wrong with me. Why am I sad all the time? Why is everybody else happy and I am sad? I wondered why things were easier for other people than they are for me.”
Earlier, during her appearance on The Tara Sharma Show, Shaheen Bhatt spoke about her suicidal thoughts, and what exactly went through her mind before she thought of such a drastic step. Shaheen mentioned how she simply felt she couldn’t take any more of this empty feeling, and thought it best to end it once and for all.

Shaheen Bhatt has, time and again, been quite vocal about her battle against depression, a topic which has been socially stigmatised a lot. Previously, during an interview with the Hindustan Times, she opened up about why she chose to go public about her struggle with depression. In her words:
“My entire reasoning for wanting to talk about this is the fact is I honestly, truly believe that even if it’s not mental illness, every one of us is struggling with some kind of pain. Pain is universal, and happiness is unfortunately not universal. And we have all got very used to not discussing things that are uncomfortable. That was very important for me to sort of let my guard down, to begin with, because I felt it was really holding me back.”
