Alia Bhatt is currently one of the leading actresses in Bollywood. However, more than her professional life, she hits the headlines for her personal life. Married to actor, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia is a proud mommy to their 1-year-old daughter, Raha Kapoor. Ranbir and Alia have been living the best life with their little one, but they often fall prey to trolls and negativity for one reason or another. And the actress' viral 'wipe off lipstick' statement was one such instance, which broke the internet.
Back in October 2023, during an interview, Alia Bhatt candidly mentioned that her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, always asks her to 'wipe off' her lipstick because he prefers her natural lip colour. This comment made Ranbir a target of severe online criticism and was labelled as a toxic partner by netizens. Now, as Alia graced the recent episode of Koffee with Karan 8, she finally broke her silence on the same.

As Alia graced the show, Karan Johar teased Alia, saying, “You have been accused of talking about Ranbir a lot”. When the show's host asked Alia about her take on her comments about Ranbir Kapoor becoming an explosion online, she mentioned that it happened because Ranbir is not active on social media. Adding that her remarks about him tend to attract more attention, she said:
“I have a very candid way of speaking so even when I’m talking about anything in my life, I like to imitate the person that I’m talking about, I like to give anecdotes, I like to make it personal. I feel like a lot of things just get picked out of context which happened recently.”
Alia also shared how she responded to Ranbir being labelled as a toxic partner and mentioned that many things are taken out of context. She recalled how her team alerted her that the matter was escalating, but she thought of letting it go because her team frequently brings up various matters. However, when she realised that there were articles portraying Ranbir as a toxic person, it broke her heart. Alia added:
“My team told me, ‘This is going a little out of hand.’ And I was like, ‘It’s okay, let it be.’ Because genuinely, people say things all the time. But then I realised that there are serious articles talking about how he’s a toxic man and this and that. And I’m like, ‘Are we serious?’ There are many issues in the world to talk and give more attention towards than talking about something I said in a completely different context. I think the only reason I felt bad, or feel bad is that if people misunderstand, is because he’s genuinely the opposite of all of that.”

Karan agreed with Alia Bhatt and added that Ranbir is not what he’s projecting to be. To this, Alia promptly replied that people are crossing a line when they speak what they want to. She even added that she can't do anything about it. Alia also shared Ranbir's take on the controversy and shared the valuable advice he gave her. She said:
“But don’t you feel like there’s also a line which I feel is being crossed. But you can’t say anything about it. People can say what they want. In fact, Ranbir says that ‘Alia, the audience owns you, they can say what the hell they want about you. As long as your movies are doing well, please do not complain sitting in your apartment in Bandra'.”
