Is Akshay Kumar's 'Housefull 5' India's Most Expensive Comedy Film? Shot On A Cruise For 90 Days

Housefull 5 is the fifth instalment of one of the most successful film franchises of the comedy genre. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, this film is ready to hit the theatres on June 6, 2025 . The film has a cast that is studded with many Bollywood stars such as Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and many more. The film is also reportedly shot on a 90-day international cruise. As per sources, this extensive star cast and shooting in real-time locations has made Housefull 5 the most expensive comedy film in India.

Housefull 5 has surpassed the budget of previous expensive comedy films

The budget of Housefull 4 was Rs. 165 crore, and Golmaal Again was made with a budget of Rs. 142 crore, reportedly. However, Housefull 5 has surpassed these two films in terms of its expenses, as per a source close to Pinkvilla. The reports confirm that the fifth instalment of Housefull is the most expensive comedy film made in India ever.

Housefull 5 has been reportedly made with a budget of Rs. 225 crores

As per a Pinkvilla report, Housefull 5 has been the most difficult film for Nadiadwala Grandsons Entertainment to set up, given the massive scale of operations. It is also made with a budget of Rs.225 crores. No official statement has been given to confirm or deny these numbers. The film is also reportedly Akshay Kumar's second-most expensive film in his acting career. The actor has also collaborated with producer, Sajid Nadiadwala before with a lot of popular films, such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Heyy Babyy, Housefull franchise, Bachchan Panday and more. The source talking about Sajid Nadiadwala and Housefull 5 shared to Pinkvilla:

"He has made a lavish ‘Killer Comedy’ for the audience, without compromising on the costs."

Housefull 5 has been shot on a cruise ship in international waters

Along with some shots in Mumbai, a large chunk of the film was shot during a 90-day cruise in international waters. The main theme of Housefull 5 revolves around the luxurious cruise. As per the trailer, a wealthy billionaire has died on a huge 20-storied cruise ship travelling in international waters, and three men claim to be his son and heir 'Jolly'. Cruises are generally expensive, and add the fact that the movie was shot on a luxurious and massive cruise ship at international locations. This shows that the film was made on a massive scale.

Housefull 5 has a star cast of 19 popular actors and actresses

Another factor that further proves the grandiosity of Housefull 5 is its huge star cast. Including superstar, Akshay Kumar, the cast constitutes 19 notable actors. Some of them are Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and many more. Akshay Kumar, in the trailer launch event of the movie, did not reveal a number when asked about his fees. However, as per Forbes, he used to charge between Rs. 60 crore and Rs. 145 crore per movie, but now he does a combination of fees plus profit sharing. In the trailer launch event, Akshay cheekily said:

"Agar maine paise liye honge toh main tujhe kyun bataunga? Tu humara bhatija lagta hai? Maine paise liye, bhut acche khase liye. Film bani, bhut acche khaase budget mein bani. Bhut maza aaya. Aaj khushi ka din hai, tune raid daalna hai?"

Even though Akshay Kumar very cleverly dodged the question about his fees for Housefull 5, it is safe to assume that the star of the franchise charges a hefty amount. The other 18 actors and actresses are also highly acclaimed in the industry and would have charged a considerable sum given their noteworthy stardom.
