Akon is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman and philanthropist. He is well-known for his influence in the reggae, Indian film, pop and afrobeats genres. However, the singer is now under the spotlight for missing a court date, which led to his arrest near Atlanta.
Hip-hop artist, Akon was arrested last week in suburban Atlanta. The singer was supposed to appear in court to face a ticket for driving with a suspended license. However, it seems like the star was a no-show. According to police records, Akon, whose legal name is Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, was arrested on November 7, 2025 (ET) by police in Chamblee, just northeast of Atlanta.

The hip-hop star was arrested on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Chamblee, just northeast of Atlanta. Akon was taken to the DeKalb County jail, where he was turned over to the Roswell Police Department. They, in turn, booked Akon into another jail, after which he posted bail and was released the same evening on November 7, 2025.

Akon landed himself in legal trouble in January 2023. Yes! Not months but years before his arrest. Police reports from Roswell show Akon, who has listed an address in a gated community in neighbouring Alpharetta, was found on September 10, 2025, in a disabled Tesla Cybertruck on a busy street. This otherwise small incident prompted the police to run the hip-hop star's plate, which led them to find a missed court date from 2 years ago.

According to reports, the police officer called for a tow truck. However, while he was waiting for the tow truck to arrive, the officer checked the license plate and found that Akon had no valid auto insurance and a suspended driver's license for failing to appear for a court hearing in January 2023. Police impounded the truck and cited Akon for driving without a valid license. The report further revealed that the police officer took the license he was carrying and released him. Police also found and seized an "illegal vape", the report says.
