Aishwarya Rai Revealed Why She Rejected 'Happy New Year', 'Would've Been Strange For Abhishek...'

Aishwarya Rai was cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Happy New Year

At one time, Aishwarya Rai was so popular in Bollywood that every filmmaker wanted to cast her. She was offered some very successful films, which she refused to do due to some compulsion. The comedy action film Happy New Year, which was released in 2014, was also offered to her, but she refused to act in it due to her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. Happy New Year, directed by Farah Khan, also starred Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivaan Shah, Sonu Sood, and Boman Irani. 

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was offered Happy New Year

In an interview with NDTV, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a shocking revelation and said that she was offered a role in the film, Happy New Year, but she rejected it. Talking about it, she said that it would have been a great opportunity to have fun with her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. However, she was reluctant to sign the film as she was not paired with Abhishek. Aishwarya said:

"Yes, I was offered the film and if I had worked in it, it would have been like a fun trip. It would have been a lot of fun, but it would not have worked for me and Abhishek Bachchan. This is because we are not paired together in the film."

The real reason why Aishwarya rejected Happy New Year

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan further said that there was only one female lead in the film, who was cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan. However, Abhishek's character had no female counterpart in the film, which wouldn't look nice. This is why Aishwarya chose to reject the film, and her role was finally given to Deepika Padukone. In her words:

"Deepika Padukone was cast opposite Shah Rukh in the film. There is only one female lead in the film, and there is no one opposite Abhishek, so it would have been very strange for Abhishek and me that I would be in the film and I would be paired with someone else while Abhishek was also in the film. That is why I rejected the film after hearing the story."
