Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is considered one of the most beautiful actresses in the Indian film industry. She is a global icon, former Miss World and an exceptional actor who proved that she is more than a pretty face. As a woman of substance, the actress has always been vocal about her viewpoints on different issues and some wrong practices in beauty pageants. Especially when the Miss World organisation decided to drop the swimsuit round from the competition, Aishwarya impressed everyone with her honest viewers.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is considered the most successful Miss World pageant winner. Her successful acting career in India and work abroad has received immense praise over time. Consequently, when Julia Morley, chairwoman of the Miss World organisation, decided to drop the 'bikini round' in 2014, Aishwarya strongly supported it. During a media interaction, the actress shared that she was happy over the development and recalled that despite being the winner, she didn't have the 'best beach body'. In her words:
"When I became Miss World, I was definitely not the best beach body of all the 87 contestants. I can vouch for it, I can put a stamp on it. And yet I won the title."
In the same conversation, Aishwarya added that many people perceive that swimwear round is crucial in a beauty pageant to determine the win of a contestant, but that's not true. She also recalled being told winning at beauty contest isn't about physical beauty, but more about how someone presents themselves. She said:
"People believe that this (swimwear round) is an imperative round, and this becomes the deciding factor. That's not true. I was told getting the 'Miss Perfect 10' title isn't about literally your physicality, it was all about how you presented yourself, your confidence, and so much else that went with it."
Aishwarya Rai was among the most popular participants at the Miss World pageant 1994. Her participation made headlines and impressed everyone in each round with her beauty, grace and confidence. But, the world witnessed her intellect when she gave an impressive answer in the final 'question-answer' round. During the crucial round, Aishwarya was asked about the qualities she thought should be embodied by a Miss World winner. Giving her reply, Aishwarya said:
"The Miss Worlds that we have had up to date have been proof enough that they have had compassion. Compassion for the underprivileged and not only for the people who have status and stature. We have had people who can look beyond the barriers that man has set up – of nationalities and colour. We have to look beyond those, and that would make a true Miss World. A true person, a real person."
Aishwarya Rai began her career with modelling and gained attention with her historic Miss World win in 1994. She quickly transitioned into the showbiz by making her debut with Tamil film, Iruvar in 1997. In the same year, she made her Hindi film debut in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya.
