South Korean actor, Ahn Sung Ki was one of the biggest Korean cinematic stars. He had a career spanning over 60 years, and his positive image earned him the nickname 'The Nation's Actor'. Ahn Sung, at the age of 74, passed away after suffering from blood cancer for years. He passed away at Seoul’s Soonchunhyang University Hospital, where Artist Company, his agency, and the hospital officials revealed details related to the same.
Ahn Sung Ki's agency expressed deep sorrow and prayed for the eternal rest of the South Korean actor. The agency offered heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members. For the unversed, Ahn Sung Ki has left behind his wife, Oh So Yeong, and also his two sons. Ahn Sung Ki and Oh So Yeong were together for almost 40 years.

According to a Business Upturn report, Ahn Sung Ki's wife, Oh So Yeong, is a respected sculptor and a university professor. The pair married in 1985 in a Catholic ceremony at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. Myeongdong Cathedral is one of the most historic churches located in South Korea. The duo's marriage was marked by mutual respect and silent companionship.

Ahn Sung Ki's wife, Oh So Yeong, maintained a pretty low public image throughout Ahn Sung Ki's career. She had continued with her artistic and academic pursuits completely independently and stayed away from the media glare. Ahn, on the other hand, reportedly said little about his family in any of the media interviews. He used to always keep his private life completely separate from his professional life. The couple rarely discussed their marriage in the public. Ahn was focused solely on his work, and multiple social media reports revealed that they had a loving relationship built on a strong foundation.

For the unversed, Ahn comes from a family with ties to the movie and media industries. His late dad, Ahn Hwa Young, was a movie producer, while his older brother, Ahn In Ki, worked as a director and also a producer. Ahn Sung Ki has left behind his two sons, who have made their careers in the arts field. Ahn Sung Ki's elder son, Ahn Da Bin, is a painter and installation artist who is settled in the United States and married in May 2018. On the other hand, Ahn Sung Ki's younger son, Ahn Philip, is also an artist working abroad. Ahn Sung Ki has reportedly spoken positively about his kids' independent paths in various interviews.

Ahn Sung Ki was born in the southeastern city of Daegu back in 1952. He had made his debut as a child actor in the film, The Twilight Train back in 1957. He appeared in 70 films as a child actor before leaving the movie industry to live an ordinary life. Back in 1970, Ahn attended Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, where he was a Vietnamese major. He had failed to get a job in a big company despite being a graduate. In 1977, Ahn returned to the movie industry, thinking he could prove his mettle as an actor.

Ahn Sung Ki's most memorable roles included playing a 'Buddhist monk' in Mandara, 1981. He played the role of a 'beggar' in Whale Haunting, 1984, while a 'Vietnam War veteran turned novelist' in White Badge, 1992. He also played the role of a 'corrupt police officer' in Two Cops, 1993, while a 'murderer' in No Way To Hide, 1999; a 'special forces trainer' in Silmido, 2003, while in Radio Star, Ahn Sung Ki played the role of a devoted celebrity manager.
It was in 1980, when Ahn got famous because of his main lead role in Lee Jang Ho's film named, Good Windy Days. It was a coming-of-age film that revolved around the struggles of the working-class men from the rural belt. Ahn had received the Grand Bell Awards, which is the Korean version of the elite Academy Awards. Ahn was also seen in an array of critically acclaimed films, receiving the best actor awards and becoming the most famous actor back in the 1980s to 1990s. Earlier, in an interview with the Yonhap News Agency in 2003, Ahn Sung Ki revealed feeling confined by being addressed as 'The Nation's Actor'. However, he did feel that the nickname made him decide on the right path in life, as he had mentioned:
"I felt I should do something that could match that title. But I think that has eventually guided me in a good direction."
