Paul Daniel Frehley, famously known as Ace Frehley, died a few days back, leaving people utterly heartbroken. While the buzz was first dismissed, it was on October 17, 2025, when his family, through a statement, confirmed the heartbreaking news of his passing. The guitarist, whose contribution to the band, KISS, would remain unmatched, fell in his studio a few weeks back and was reportedly on life support. His death has sparked a sense of grief around, and amid this, let's look back at the time when Ace revealed the reason that resulted in his terrible falls on the stages during his performances.
Ace Frehley's death seemed to have been caused by brain bleeding, which is medically known as an intracranial haemorrhage, where the blood accumulates between the brain and skull, and prevents oxygen from reaching the brain, which can also lead to permanent damage. This situation has been described as life-threatening as well and needs immediate medical attention.
Talking about Ace Fehley's case, it was three weeks back, when he had to cancel a tour, as he had to be admitted to the hospital, due to a 'minor' fall in his studio, as per an Instagram post. The post further claimed that due to this incident, Ace had to stay back from travelling and had to cancel his programs in the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California. As per the post, after he would get better, Ace was about to continue with his tour and work in his next album, Origins Vol. 4. However, destiny had a major blow waiting for Ace Frehley's family, friends and fans, as he couldn't survive, and passed away, reportedly due to an intracranial haemorrhage.
In an interview with Music Radar earlier this year, Ace Frehley shared that there had been several times when he would fall on the stage. He revealed that he had a history of falling on the stages, and the reason behind the same had been his platform boots. He said that he would often fall due to these boots, and his bandmate, Paul, would often cover him, while walking past him, and making it look like it was a part of the choreography, so that Ace wouldn't be embarrassed. Ace shared:
"I used to fall a lot in those boots. A lot of times. Paul would cover for me by walking over to me like it was part of the show. He made it look like it was choreography or something. If nobody realized I’d fallen, I play on my knees and get back up. It was just part of the show!”
In the same interview, Ace Frehley talked about his near-death experience back in 1976, when he was performing in Lakeland, Florida. The guitarist said that he could have died that night after he was electrocuted due to some grounding issues. The singer said that he was standing on four Marshall cabinets on a staircase and was carrying one of his bandmates on his neck when he got shocked. He mentioned that if he had fallen forward that day, he would have broken his neck, but he felt there must be an angel who was pushing him back, leading him to fall backwards. Recalling the moment, Ace said:

"I should have been dead that night. The fact that I got electrocuted and didn’t fall forward was a godsend. There must have been angels pushing me back. I was standing on top of four Marshall cabinets on a staircase when I got shocked. I had a heavy Les Paul around my neck, and my body should have fallen forward, but I didn’t. If I fell forward, I would have broken my (expletive) neck. But I fell back, and the road crew dragged me back off of the staircase. I had no feeling in my hands for five to 10 minutes.”
Ace Frehley began his career back in 1972, when he auditioned for Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. Later, he was recruited as the lead guitarist of the band, which was named KISS. Ace was known for his space-themed persona, which brought him the title, 'The Spaceman'. Ace Frehley made a massive contribution to the band, which he left in 1982 to pursue a solo career. He re-joined in the 1990s, only to leave again in 2002. In his personal life, he was married to Jeanette Trerotola, and they have a daughter, Monique. After a few years of their wedding, Ace and Jeanette were reportedly divorced, but it couldn't be confirmed whether the divorce had occurred or was still in the filing stage.
We wish Ace Frehley's family strength to deal with this tough time.
