January 14, 2020, marked to be a sorrowful day for the Bachchan, Nanda and the Kapoor clans as Ritu Nanda took her last breath after battling with cancer for six years. In 2013, Ritu was diagnosed with cancer, post which she had gone to the US for the treatment with her daughter. Hailing from the famous Kapoor family, Ritu, sister of Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, got married to Rajan Nanda and they were blessed with two children, Nikhil Nanda and Natasha Nanda. To inform their fan and followers of Ritu Nanda’s demise, her sister-in-law, Neetu Kapoor had shared a heartfelt post, which could be read as “My dearest may your soul Rest In Peace." Ritu’s samdhi and Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s father, Amitabh Bachchan had also confirmed the news of the demise of his daughter’s mother-in-law. Big B had written on his blog, “My ‘samdhan’ Ritu Nanda, Shweta’s Mother in Law passed away suddenly at 1.15 Am .. cannot communicate .. travelling.”

Ritu Nanda’s last rites had taken place at the Lodhi Road cremation ground in Delhi. After the cremation, her son, Nikhil Nanda and grandchildren, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda took her remains to immerse in Haridwar. Abhishek Bachchan too, accompanied his niece and nephew and stood by them as a pillar of strength in this difficult time. When Navya had broken down into tears when her grandmother’s last rites were being performed, it was her mama, Abhishek who consoled her. Ritu Nanda’s niece and Rishi Kapoor’s daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni had also taken to her Instagram to mourn the death of her bua with an emotional note. Riddhima had written, "To the kindest most gentle person I‘ve ever met - They don’t make them like you anymore - RIP bua #missyoualways." Ritu’s brother and veteran actor, Randhir Kapoor had also confirmed the news with the Indian Express and was quoted as saying, "Ritu Nanda passed away early morning today. She was suffering from cancer. We are in Delhi. The funeral is today."
Later, on the night of Ritu Nanda’s demise, her daughter-in-law, Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s father, Amitabh Bachchan had penned down a eulogy for his samdhan. Expressing his feelings of how the news reached him and how, in a flash, it was all gone, Big B had written, “That silent knock at the work place... the hurried expression of worried concern... the hours that sleep in most parts of the World that seek the midnight... shuffled steps, soft anxious and disturbed conversations... and then within a blink... the lights go out... she has gone... distance and absence accentuates the grief... feel of loss, concern for those by the side, and the need to be in the embrace of them that see and suffer in the exact... such are the incomprehensible moments that the day in the day of lives throws at us.” (Also Read: Amitabh Bachchan Misses 'Maa Ka Pallu' After Visiting His Doctor, Remembers His Childhood Days)
Recalling the years spent with his samdhan, Ritu Nanda and speaking about the memories, her personality, the home she built and nurtured, Amitabh Bachchan had continued, “Polite conversation, of reminisce, of association, of happy times spent together, of the fight and struggle for the ailment for years... and most of all the loneliness of them that are left behind... the vacuum... the emptiness .. the presence that filled up the entire home... lost and gone... that empty favourite chair... that corner of preference... the unstinted care and concern for all when present, now suddenly not in existence…the voice of the bird that built her little nest, heard no more... the delicate nest shedding its strains of the making... the command the control the authority, suddenly absent.”
Summing up the least known Kapoor in the most perfect way, Amitabh Bachchan had concluded, “Attempts by several for pleasant conversation that depict the times spent with her... expressions and attitudes just before she breathed her last... indications that it was known to her... words spoken never heard before… an ideal daughter, an ideal sister, an ideal wife, an ideal Mother, an ideal in-law, an ideal Mother-in-Law, and an ideal friend... has left us for good in a distance we cannot cover... for now... !!” (Also Read: Anushka Sharma Pens A Heartfelt Note Expressing How Proud She Is Of Her Papa Ajay Sharma On Army Day)
