Abhijeet Bhattacharya Reveals Why He No Longer Sings For SRK: 'When Self-Respect Is Hurt...'

Renowned playback singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, has lent his voice to some of the most iconic tracks of Shah Rukh Khan. Some of his most notable SRK tracks include Tauba Tumhare Ishare, Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha, Woh Ladki Jo and the title track from Chaand Taare. However, it’s been years since the singer has sung any SRK track, which raised speculations about a potential rift. Abhijeet finally addressed the long-standing speculation about his fallout with the superstar, shedding light on a rift that stemmed from feelings of being undervalued.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya recalled feeling undervalued, despite giving some legendary hits

In a recent interview with ANI, Abhijeet broke the silence on why he no longer sings for Shah Rukh Khan. The singer was a music legend in the 90s and 2000s, and sang some of the most memorable hits of the era, most of which were tracks from Shah Rukh’s films. The singer revealed that his fallout began when he felt his contributions weren’t acknowledged adequately. Speaking about the experience, he said:

“When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ I wasn’t singing for him (Shah Rukh); I was singing for my work. But when I saw that they were acknowledging everyone–like a tea vendor who serves tea on set–but not acknowledging the singer, I felt, ‘Why should I be your voice?’”

Abhijeet also revealed that the issue persisted across multiple projects with SRK.  Despite attempts to address it through mutual acquaintances, the matter was never resolved to his satisfaction.

SRK, Abhijeet

Abhijeet Bhattacharya has no hard feelings for Shah Rukh Khan, but he doesn’t want a reconciliation either

Further in the interview, Abhijeet was asked if he thought there was a chance of reconciliation. To this, the singer promptly responded that he does not particularly hold any hard feelings for Shah Rukh, but now that he’s a megastar, Abhijeet does not expect anything from him. He said:

“It’s not that my relationship with SRK is broken, but Shah Rukh is now such a huge star that he’s no longer just a human being. Even he probably doesn’t realise the level he has reached. So why should I expect anything from him?”

“I’m still the same person I was; I am growing in my own way. I’m 5-6 years older than him. He’s over 60, and I’m also in my 60s. There was no need for anyone to apologize. Both of us have egos. Our birthdays are just a day apart; we are both Scorpios. But I’m the bigger Scorpio. I don’t need him or his support."
