Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen starrer song, Chunari Chunari, holds a special place in the hearts of Bollywood fans. Originally pictured in the 1999 film, Biwi No.1, the peppy track immediately became a fan favourite, and people still remember the lyrics of this song, which gets them dancing on the floor. So, when a video of this catchy song being filmed on Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur surfaced on the internet, fans were curious. Since they are working on the upcoming film, Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai by David Dhawan, rumours are rife that a remake of the song would be in the film. Although there is no confirmation about the same, recently, singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who lent his voice to the song, shared his views about it.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Anuradha Sriram sang Chunari Chunari, so the Hindustan Times reached out to the former to ask his opinions about the alleged remake of his song. In turn, Abhijeet shared that neither the music composer nor the film director dared to inform him about the possible remake of his song. In his words:
“Mujhe music composer, film ke director kisi ne nahi bataya ki iss song ko remake kiya jaa raha hai. Himmat bhi nahi kar sakte batane ki.”
Surprisingly, Abhijeet Bhattacharya admitted that Chunari Chunari was never his favourite song, and he rather sang it for the sake of it. The singer revealed that the original idea behind the song was to make it a hit through its catchy lyrics and rhythm. He never expected it to become such an era-defining song from the 90s. Reflecting on its timeless popularity, he mentioned that in the last 25 years, he used to hear it at public celebrations and wonder why people loved it. However, Abhijeet has realised that it holds a vital place in the hearts of fans. When asked about his reaction to the remake, the singer unexpectedly said:
“Mujhe farak nahi padhta itni chhoti cheez se. I don't get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. Tuchhi cheez mein main padhta hi nahi hoon.”
When the videos of Mrunal, Pooja and Varun Dhawan dancing on Chunari Chunari in a shoot went viral, netizens were quick to share their reactions to it. Although, there is no official confirmation about the remake of the song, fans expressed their disapproval for it. One netizen penned, "Why does his dad want to ruin all those classics? No one will listen to them, btw, like the new generation barely knows the vibes and the old generation will always stick to the original version." Another user wrote, "What why and why redo is it so tacky? At least match the feel and grace of the OG."
