The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 has started at the Triveni Sangam in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. Millions of spiritual seekers fought the cold and took a holy dip in the cold water. Amid the devotees, 'Engineer, IITian Baba', Abhay Singh has gained traction in the 45-day Maha Kumbh Mela. He is a former aerospace engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B). Everyone on social media has hailed him as IITian Baba, and now Abhay has taken to his social media to speak about it.
Abhay, known for using visual presentation and diagrams to explain complex spiritual theories, took to his Instagram to address being called an 'IITian Baba'. He asked his social media followers before labeling someone as a 'maharaj' or a 'baba' if anyone knew the meaning of these words before using them. His post read:
"How do you tell someone what you are? No words can do it, so you use placeholder titles. Anyways all of that is immaterial- the more the samsara throws negativity, the more closer I get to Shiva. Why is everyone interested in IIT label? It doesn't reflect me, it reflects the mindset of society."
In another Instagram story, he spoke about how all questions were actually the reflections of our minds channelled through the media, which is more like an attention-grabbing mechanism than storytelling. The remaining part of his post also read:
"Have you ever looked at why certain stories or labels attract you more to clicking on a video? Finally the, humanity is collectively going in a madness direction."
In an interview with PTI, Abhay revealed that science helped explain the physical world, but its deeper study inevitably leads one towards spirituality. He felt a true understanding of life ultimately brings one closer to spirituality. Abhay, who hailed from Haryana, wanted to find the truth, and when asked on why he left engineering, he said:
"I come from Haryana, I went to IIT, then changed to Arts from Engineering, that also didn't work so I kept changing and later I arrived at the final truth."
Abhay also revealed how he started exploring Sanskrit. He wanted to know how it was written and composed and what made Sanskrit so special. He had a quest for knowledge, then it shift and the question was how the mind worked and how does one get rid of unwanted thoughts.
