'IIT Baba' Abhay Singh Detained For Keeping Addictive Substance, Calls It 'Prasad' After Release

We live in an internet-dominated world where several personalities have risen to prominence through the medium. Some gained popularity for their talent, others for their uniqueness, like Abhay Singh, a.k.a IIT Baba. He came into the spotlight during the holy Maha Kumbh mela after videos of his statements and identity made headlines. Although the Maha Kumbh mela has come to an end, Abhay Singh is again in the news after he was arrested for possessing illicit substance on his birthday.

Abhay Singh gets arrested over possession of illicit substance 

Abhay Singh, who claimed that he visited the Maha Kumbh mela for the sake of spirituality, was recently arrested in Jaipur. As per reports, the police got a tip that he was staying in a hotel in the Riddhi Siddhi area of the city. At the same time, they were told that he was creating a fuss around the place, affecting the region's peace. Consequently, the police went to the spot and got holding illicit substance from him. 

Soon, a case was registered against Abhay Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Moreover, he was detained on the spot. Upon further investigation, the police found that the quantity of illict substance found from Abhay was under the permissible limit. As a result, he was released soon. However, there is no confirmation on whether the case has been dismissed.

Abhay Singh claims that illicit substance is a form of 'prasad' for him

Several reporters reached the spot after the news about IIT Baba's arrest became public. They interacted with him for a quote, where Abhay admitted that a case was registered against him. He revealed that the police reached the hotel where he was staying and enjoying on his birthday. Abhay also added that police questioned him about the illicit substance, that is a form of prasad for him. In his words: 

"Police reached the hotel where I was staying and detained me, saying they received information that I was creating a ruckus. This was a strange excuse, I thought. Almost every baba at Kumbh consumes ganja as prasad. Would they arrest all of them?"

Who is Abhay Singh aka ‘IIT Baba’?

Abhay Singh is reportedly an alumnus of IIT Bombay, and he used to study aerospace engineering. He went to Maha Kumbh Mela to fulfil his curiosity about spirituality. When some internet users spotted him at the holy fair, his background left everyone surprised. Later, Abhay gave an interview with India Today TV and revealed that he had a difficult childhood with strained relationships in his family. IIT Baba mentioned that he wanted to pursue photography but his family didn't supported his passion and criticised him. Consequently, he left home to find a new goal in life.
