Abhay Deol, a renowned Bollywood actor, made his debut back in 2005 with the movie, Socha Na Tha. Apart from that, he was seen in several Hindi films such as Manorama Six Feet Under, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Dev.D, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Aisha, among so many others. Abhay is the nephew of Bollywood actor, Dharmendra, and being from the Deol family brought him a whole lot of fame as well. In a recent interview, Abhay shared how being from a well-known filmy family proved to be a bit harsh for him in his childhood.
Abhay Deol recently sat for an interview with Humans of Bombay, wherein he shared his anecdotes from his childhood. He shared that during the time, he was in school, he never knew what to expect from the outside world, as some of the people were extremely favourable, and others seemed to be harsh, which was due to him belonging to a filmy family. He said that people thought him to be privileged but underserving. Abhay can be quoted as saying:
"I never knew what to expect—either some were overly favourable, or they were extremely harsh because they saw me as privileged and undeserving of that privilege."
In the same interview, Abhay Deol recalled an incident when he had to be humiliated as one of his private tutors insulted him. He shared that his teacher would publicly humiliate and insult him and pass comments about his family.
Abhay remarked that the teacher even would loudly tell the class the information that would make the headlines about his family, and would point this to him. The actor revealed being shocked by his teacher's behaviour, and after being an adult, he got to understand that the person was really troubled to insult a kid in front of the class and that too about referring to his family. Sharing how harsh his teacher was, Abhay said:
"She would publicly humiliate me, passing comments about my family, and if something was in the news, she would say it loudly in class, like, ‘You people do this.’ As a kid, you get shocked and internalise these things because you can’t speak out. As an adult, I feel she was a very troubled person to insult a child and his family in front of the class. It wasn’t even in a regular class—it was in tuition. My friends kept quiet because of how harshly she spoke about my family."
In the same interview, Abhay Deol shared that before Dev D was released he moved to New York, as it was hard for him to deal with the attention and the fame he was getting. Sharing the reason behind the same, Abhay remarked that he was a sensitive kid and didn't like the attention, rather he was more into creativity and art. Revealing why he moved to New York, Abhay stated that he knew that Dev D would be big and would bring him fame, which he didn't want, but he wanted to continue acting. He mentioned being in conflict back in that time and being scared of the fame, which is why he moved to New York.
