Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' Gets TROLLED For Copying, Netizens Say, 'Agar Ye Movie Nahi..'

Aamir Khan's upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par's trailer was released on May 13, 2025. While the audience was excited about the film as it was alleged that it would be a spiritual sequel of Taare Zameen Par, it has left the netizens utterly disappointed. While some fans were excited to catch a glimpse of the film, others were shocked to see that the film was a 'scene to scene' copy. 

Is Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par a copy of the 2023 Hollywood film, Champion?

Sitaare Zameen Par had the entire Taare Zameen Par cult excited. However,  the trailer has left them divided. While some were thrilled to see an insight into the sports drama, others were irked by the similarities between the trailer of the film and the 2023 Hollywood film, Champion. The backlash has grown louder on social media, and disappointed fans are demanding a boycott if the film is released without any new addition to the plot.

For the uninitiated, the trailer of the film, Sitaare Zameen Par was released on May 13, 2025. The 3-minute-long trailer introduced Aamir Khan in the role of a once-famous basketball coach who had a major fall from his high-and-mighty pedestal. The trailer revealed how the coach ended up training a group of people on the autism spectrum after he got in trouble with the police and showed an insensitive attitude. While Genelia Deshmukh played the role of Aamir's love interest in the film, the makers have released the film as:

"1 Tingu Basketball Coach, 10 Toofani SITAARE aur unki journey."

Netizens call the film a copy of Champion

The storyline of Sitaare Zameen Par was definitely attempted to be put as a sports drama. However, before the audience could even dive into the catharsis of it all, they were irked by the similarities between the two films. A user penned, "Agar ye movie nahi chali toh phir mat bolna ki Bollywood acchi movie nahi banata." Another wrote, "After the Forest Gump fiasco, he should have stayed away from remakes or adaptations...yeh bhi pitegi lagta hai." A comment read, "Perfectionist in copying the film frame by frame." A user in a long note stated:

"Are these guys so much brain drained that they can't pick a good story and make movies with all their might and resources? It's very interesting, and it baffles me to see OTT platforms using better storylines and presentation, at times with a smaller budget, too."

About the 2023 film, Champion 

Champion was released in 2023 and is the remake of a 2018 Spanish film with the same title. The storyline of the film follows a hot-headed coach who was forced to train an autistic spectrum team as a part of his community service. According to Wikipedia and IMDb, Aamir's Sitaare Zameen Par is based on the 2018 film, Champion and not the 2023 movie. Nonetheless, it has left social media users questioning whether this is an honest adaptation or just a lazy copy.
