7 Ways To Make Shopping With Your In-Laws Absolutely Stress-Free

Have you ever gone out shopping with a set of complete strangers; people who know nothing about your choice of things, your taste, your favourite shops, etc.? In short, have you ever gone shopping with your in-laws, or to be more precise, FUTURE in-laws? Well, let’s just say, shopping with your parents is easy because you can boss them around and have your way. This holds true for your friends too!

However, it is not the same if you’ve been asked to tag along by your future in-laws who want to buy your shaadi ka joda among a host of other things. You’ve got to be extremely cautious of voicing your fashion preferences lest they take offence.

So, here are some ways in which you can overcome the stress of shopping with your fiancé’s parents.

When you go out shopping, you automatically figure out each other’s taste. It’s definitely a disaster if your choices don’t match. All of us develop a fashion sense over a time, but try not to be a snob and mock their sense of style and fashion if you don’t like it.

#2. Engage in small talks

Some of us are literally not pro in making small talks, but you must do so in order to avoid those awkward silences that creep in, out of nowhere. When you’re shopping with them, they will surely ask you to buy whatever you like. We say it’s a Catch-22 situation for both so be extra cautious lest you be seen as a spendthrift. Just make sure you get an idea of the budget that they have decided and then shop accordingly. Don’t go overboard buying the most expensive pieces only because you love them.

#4. Do not say a ‘yes’ too soon. Discuss.

Yes, there is pressure if you don’t buy even a single outfit the entire day. Chances are that you may give into the stress and say a yes too soon. Under this pressure, you may buy a lehenga or a suit that you don’t want to be caught wearing ever. So, how do you escape this tricky situation? Politely say a ‘no’ and share what’s in your mind. Show them a photograph or ask the shopkeeper to show what matches your preference. It helps both sides, right?

#5. Listen to them

Let’s say you are quite clear about what you want to wear for various wedding functions, but just try listening to what they want to say. They might just blow you over with what they have in their mind. And, if that is not the case you can always tell them politely.

Yes, girl! Just hold your horses and keep your shopping list away for a while. At least when you’re out with your future parents-in-law. We know that something may have caught your attention, but just breathe-in and out and focus on what has to be bought as per your in-laws’ list! It’s difficult we know, but important.

#7. Give an advice only when you’re asked for it

Your parents-in-law may also want to buy a few things for themselves. If you’re asked for an opinion be wary of not speaking too much and becoming their fashion counsellor. Speak only as much is required and let them decide what they want.
