A couple from Kerela proved that love is not bound to an age when they found love again in their 60s. 67-year-old, Kochaniyan Menon found love in 63-year-old, Lakshmi Amaal. They had known each other for decades before they decided to tie the knot in 2019.
It was in December 2019 when Kochaniyan Menon and Lakshmi Amaal decided to give marriage another shot. The couple decided to get hitched in November 2019, and a month later got married in the same old age home they had met in. For the unversed, their marriage marked the first union for the government-run old age home in Ramavarmapuram in Thrissur district of Kerala.
Konchaniyan Menon and Lakshmi Amaal knew each other years before they met again in the old age home. Konchaniyan was Lakshmi's late husband, Krisha Iyer's assistant in his catering business. In a conversation with The News Minute, Lakshmi revealed that it was her late husband who had asked Konchaniyan to take care of his wife after he passed away in 1998. She stated:
"My husband passed away 21 years ago. But he asked Kochaniyan to take care of me after he passed. He was with me then. After he passed away, I lived alone in my house for some years. Kochaniyan used to come home if I required some help. Later, I sold my house and shifted to a relative's house, where I lived for many years. Kochaniyan used to check on me often."
As time passed, the two lost contact and Lakshmi was moved to the care home in 2017. However, as fate would have it, the duo crossed paths again when Kochaniyan shifted to the same facility in October 2019. Only after a month together, the couple decided they wanted to get married. Lakshmi told TNM:
"Two years ago, I came here to this old age home. I was surprised to see him. I was feeling lonely all these years. When I met him here, I was overjoyed. He never left me alone. He loves me. That's why we decided to lead the rest of our lives as husband and wife."
In the same conversation, John Daniel, a standing committee member of Thrissur Corporation Welfare, revealed how they found a way to get the couple married. He revealed that while there were no government laws against senior citizens getting married, the couple planned on continuing to live in the old age home after the ceremony, for which they needed certain permissions.

However, things worked out when Jayakumar recalled that in a meeting held at the Secretariat eight months ago, there was a decision to conduct the marriage of any old age home residents if they were interested. With the help of the residents of the old-age home, the couple was able to find happiness. He stated:
"A month ago, the old age home superintendent Jayakumar told me their story. They wanted to get married. So, we decided to find a way to get them married at the old age home itself. Somehow, we found the minutes of the meeting and decided to get them married."
