Veteran actress, Meenakshi Seshadri was one of the most popular actresses of Bollywood who reigned during the 90s. After the release of the film, Damini, she became a household name. People still remember her as ‘Damini’ since its release back in 1993. For the uninitiated, at the mere age of 17, Meenakshi was crowned Miss India as the youngest Indian. Recently, the 61-year-old actress was spotted during a movie screening in Mumbai. Read on to know how the veteran actress marked her presence at the event.
The 61-year-old actress, Meenakshi was recently spotted during the screening of Pune Highway. For those unaware, Pune Highway, Amit Shah and Jim Sarbh’s thriller is all set to release on May 23, 2025. Now, coming to the veteran’s graceful appearance during the event. Meenakshi donned a black satin saree and paired it with a black blouse with golden floral prints on it. She accessorized her look with a metal neckpiece and dangling earrings. She left no stone unturned to look bold with eye makeup and a bold lip shade.
Even after so many years, Meenakshi is still popularly known as ‘Damini’. But what if you are told that the veteran actress was kicked out of the project after she started shooting? Yes, you read that right. In a past interview with Zoom, Meenakshi recalled how she was asked to step out of the film, Damini. The reason behind such a decision was made after the 61-year-old actress refused to accept the film’s director, Rajkumar Santoshi marriage proposal. Meenakshi was quoted as saying:
"I was cast and started shooting for a movie called Damini and there were issues. I was asked to step out of the movie.”
Further in the interview, Meenakshi revealed that although there were issues after she rejected Rajkumar’s proposal, the Producers Guild and Artists Guild later came together to bring her back to the film. The actress also expressed that she has respect for everyone involved in the film, including director Rajkumar Santoshi. Recalling the past days, Meenakshi said:
“Santoshi ji and I decided not to talk about it. It is water under the bridge. But the courage to stand up was important because nobody should be told they aren’t required anymore. I just said that I will choose not to comment on this as it is below my dignity to turn this into a fight. This is not a fight. I respect all the people involved with the film, especially Santoshi ji because his vision was tremendous. Ultimately, they say action speaks louder than words, so the Producers Guild, the Artists Guild, all came together to make it happen.”
Yesteryear actress and Miss India 1981 winner, Meenakshi’s love life has always been in the limelight. Starting with popular singer, Kumar Sanu to Rajkumar Santoshi, followed by her marriage with US-based investment banker, Harish Mysore. Tying the knot with Harish was what we call predestined for the veteran actress. The couple tied the knot back in 1995. The duo also welcomed two kids, a son named Josh and a daughter named Kendra.
