Veteran Bollywood actress, Zeenat Aman will never not be an icon. The diva, who ruled the silver screen during the 1970s and 80s with iconic films like Don and Yaadon Ki Baarat, was known for her bold and glamorous roles. Her on-screen chemistry with the legendary Shashi Kapoor was a much-loved one, and the duo has delivered memorable performances in films like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.
Zeenat Aman, who recently won hearts with her acting in The Royals, has once again captivated the internet with a heartfelt trip down memory lane, reminiscing about her teenage crush on the legendary Shashi Kapoor. Like many girls of her era, she was also mesmerised by his dashing looks and irresistible charm.
What began as a schoolgirl’s innocent admiration soon transformed into a meaningful professional bond, as the two went on to share the screen in several hit films, creating unforgettable moments in Bollywood history. Remembering the iconic star’s fame among teenage girls, Zeenat wrote:
“With those twinkling eyes and handsome features, Shashi Kapoor was every Indian schoolgirl’s fantasy! Myself included. The first time I saw him, I was still in boarding school… And my goodness, he had the girls in a swoon.”
After school, fate brought Zeenat closer to Shashi Kapoor once again. The actress lived in the same area as Kapoor in South Bombay, and she used to get out in the evenings with her girlfriends to catch a glimpse of the star. The Qurbani star shared:
“Shashi was a south Bombay resident and lived not too far down the road from me… word soon got around that ‘THE’ Shashi Kapoor had the daily habit of an evening perambulation at 6 pm on the dot. My girlfriends and I… spent an entire winter break convincing our parents we needed fresh air… Of course, all we were hoping for was a glimpse of the movie star in his shorts!”
Years later, destiny gave Zeenat Aman the rare opportunity to not only meet her teenage crush but also share screen space with him. In her Instagram post, Zeenat recalled her much-talked-about first on-screen kiss with Shashi Kapoor, revealing that despite the buzz it created, the moment was shot with complete ease and mutual respect.

What made the memory even more special for Zeenat was the personal joy of fulfilling a teenage fantasy; her schoolgirl crush on Kapoor had materialised into a cinematic reality, proving that some childhood dreams do come true, even if only on the silver screen. Her post read:
“When eventually Shashi and my career paths crossed, I found myself in the company of a cheeky, intelligent and charming man… I chose to share this clip with you for two reasons. Firstly, it was a big moment in my career. It was my first on-screen kiss… I truly did not have a moment of discomfort while shooting it. Secondly, because schoolgirl Zeenat would be thrilled by the audacity of this post, and the realisation that a schoolgirl crush can actualise even if only for celluloid!”
