Zee TV's 'Kumkum Bhagya' To End After Running For 11 Years, Showed Story Of Four Generations

Kumkum Bhagya, starring Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia, was produced on Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms banner and premiered on Zee TV on April 15, 2014. When the show initially started, it showcased the story of 'Pragya', a serious and responsible professor and 'Abhi', an eccentric and moody rockstar. However, the 'Abhi-Pragya' jodi has been long gone, and the show is currently telling the story of their great-granddaughter, 'Prarthana'. After running for 11 years, Kumkum Bhagya is now reportedly going to end with this fourth generation of the couple.

Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya is reportedly coming to an end after 11 years

As per multiple reports, Zee TV is all geared up with fresh shows in its pipeline. Hence, Ekta Kapoor's one of the longest-running serials on the channel, Kumkum Bhagya, is coming to an end. The show has been a huge part of the channel and had once dominated Television Rating Points (TRP) charts for months. It had also stayed in the top five positions even though the beloved 'Abhi-Pragya' pair left the show. However, amid consistently low TRP and upcoming new shows, Zee TV has finally decided to pack up the show for good.

Reports have also suggested that the upcoming show, Ganga Mai Ki Betiyaan, is going to take the place of Kumkum Bhagya. The former is produced by Dreamiyata Entertainment, owned by Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta. Allegedly, the channel is trying to bring in fresh content amid low ratings, as a result, the timings of other shows are going to be changed to make space for serials with new concepts.

Kumkum Bhagya is currently showcasing the story of the fourth generation

With over 3000 episodes since its premiere, Kumkum Bhagya has showcased all the tropes of Indian serials over the past 11 years. As of now, the main leads of the show are 'Prarthana' and 'Shivansh'. The former is the great-granddaughter of 'Pragya', the very first female lead character of the show. Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul play the roles of 'Prarthana' and 'Shivansh' respectively. Recently, Kundali Bhagya, a spin-off series of Kumkum Bhagya, also went off the air a few months ago. Iwmbuzz.com's source close to the production revealed:

"Kumkum Bhagya, which presently has Pranali Rathod, Namik Paul, and Akshay Bindra as the fourth-generation leads, will soon go off air. The decision has been made to end the long-running show due to a drop in TRPs."

Over the 11 years of the show, after Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia, Mugdha Chapekar had taken over as their daughter 'Prachi' and Krishna Kaul as her love-interest 'Ranbir'. Then Rachi Sharma came on as 'Poorvi, the second couple's daughter, and Abrar Qazi as 'Rajvansh', her on-screen partner. And at last, the show will reportedly end with Pranali and Namik as 'Prarthana' and 'Shivansh'. The recent episodes show 'Shivansh' admitted to a hospital fighting for his life, and 'Prarthana' incessantly praying to God to save him.
