Zarine Khan's Funeral Held As Per Hindu Customs, Son Zayed Fulfils Her Wish Of 'Dah-Sanskar'

Sussanne Khan and Zayed Khan's mother, Zarine Khan, wife of Sanjay Khan, passed away at the age of 81 on November 7, 2025. For the unversed, her last rites were held as per Hindu customs. While the nation is mourning her death, many wonder why Hindu rituals were followed during her last rites.

Recently, several glimpses of Zarine's funeral were captured by media stationed at the cremation ground. Her heartbroken son, Zayed Khan, was seen leading as he carried the kalash as pandit ji guided him, while the parthvi sharir of Zarine Khan was carried by her grandchildren. Her son fulfilled her wish of having a dah-sanskar as per Hindu rituals.

Why did Zarine Khan's family choose her last rites to be held as per Hindu customs?

For those who don't know, Zarine Khan was born a Hindu. Her real name was Zarine Katrak before she married Sanjay Khan. It is worth mentioning that when she got married to Sanjay Khan, she did not convert her religion, and it is one of the major reasons her last rites were held as per Hindu customs and not her husband's Muslim religion. 

For the unversed, Zarine first met Sanjay when she was 14 years old through his mother, Bibi Fatima Begum Khan. It was in 1966 when they started dating and got married. Soon, they got blessed with four children — Sussanne Khan, Simone Khan, Farah Ali Khan and Zayed Khan.

For those who don't know, Sanjay Khan cheated on Zarine Khan when she was expecting their son, Zayed Khan. Sanjay was involved with Zeenat Aman. During his appearance with his wife on Simi Garewal's show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, Zarine talked about the same. When Simi questioned Zarine if the rumours were true and that she was pregnant with her son, Zayed, the star wife nodded with a yes. 

However, Zarine went on to claim that she knew her husband, and while he did falter, she had full faith that he would come back to her and won't go anywhere apart from her. Zarine was quoted as saying:

"I knew my husband. Maybe he did falter a little bit but again, being an actor's wife, you got to have that much of patience and at the same time the strength and conviction to know that he is going to come back to you."

For those who don't know, Zarine Katrak (Khan) was a famous model of her time. She made her presence felt in the entertainment industry in the 1960s. She started off her acting career as she appeared in films such as Tere Ghar Ke Samne and Ek Phool Do Mali. She had a beautiful face in the modelling world, and people were left in awe of her poise and charm. However, after marrying into a Muslim family, Zarine shifted her profession. From acting, she switched to interior design and home decor. She also wrote several cookbooks and lifestyle articles.
