Young Thug's latest release has taken the rap world by storm. The song is being appreciated not just for its bold bars but for its emotional confessions. The Atlanta rapper, released from prison in October 2024, used the track to address the whirlwind of leaked jail calls that had put his personal life on display.
In Man I Miss My Dogs, Thug apologised to fellow rappers like Drake and Lil Baby, but also made a pointed reference to his longtime girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist. Fans immediately picked up the lyrics, where he expressed regret and fear of 'losing (her) to the internet'. The song has reignited curiosity around their love story, a romance that had been hailed as hip-hop's one of the most supportive partnership. Let's have a look at their relationship timeline.
The pair first crossed paths in 2021, rumours of romance between Young Thug and Mariah began swirling after they were spotted together at an NBA game and cosying up in clubs. The speculation only grew stronger when Thug appeared in Mariah's music video Walked In where the duo played bride and groom. The collaboration marked the beginning of a real relationship for them. By the end of 2021, fans were convinced they were an official couple, though neither confirmed it outright at the time.
By 2022, Young Thug and Mariah had stopped hiding their connection. They began attending events together, with Mariah often being spotted backstage at Thug's shows. When Thug was hit with racketeering charges during the infamous YSL trial, Mariah became one of his most visible supporters. Her unwavering presence and support during his legal battles strengthened the public perception of her as his rock. In interviews, Mariah described Thug as her anchor and someone she was willing to stand by regardless of outside noise.
Despite their romance, which had sustained all the hardships, including Thug's jail time, cracks began to show in 2022 when leaked phone calls from Thug's time in jail surfaced. In one recording with Instagram model, Leena Sayed, Thug told her to 'move on' and 'find love' elsewhere, leaving many confused about his loyalty to Mariah.

In another call, Thug casually admitted to speaking with '10 women a week just to pass the time,' while also expressing he didn't want to hurt Mariah because 'she loves him too much. ' The leaks sparked headlines and a whole lot of speculations. Mariah, however, chose silence at the time, leaving fans guessing about her feelings. Thug later took to social media to apologise publicly. He wrote:
"My baby I was wrong and I'm sorry for what I put u through. U deserved better from me. Thank you for everything and I will do anything to make this work."
Things escalated further when another leaked phone call revealed Thug had cheated on Mariah just a day before his arrest. Though devastating, the revelation was not followed by an immediate breakup announcement. Mariah posted cryptic lyrics from her song Rainy Days on Instagram, hinting at heartbreak. Meanwhile, Thug tweeted 'Chapter ended,' leaving fans convinced the relationship had reached its breaking point. Despite the tension, no official confirmation of a split ever came from them, which left the fans in a constant cycle of speculation.
Even though Mariah and Thug went through many ups and downs, the couple soon seemed to have reconciled and came out of the hard times together. When Thug secured his release on probation in October 2024, Mariah was one of the first to celebrate. In an emotional message shared with WSBTV reporter, Michael Seiden, she wrote:
"Thank you God, thank you God. This is more than what we prayed for. We are so grateful and this is more than what we expected. We're ready to move forward with our life."
The couple's bond extended beyond romance into their music careers. After appearing together in Walked In, they reunited musically in 2023 for Ride, which Mariah described as a love song reflecting their relationship. Thug's references to Mariah in his 2025 track further prove how influential she has been in his songs. Their chemistry goes beyond their personal lives and their musical work has often mirrored their emotional ups and downs, which make their collaborations resonate even more deeply with fans.
As of 2025, Young Thug and Mariah's relationship remains clouded in mystery. On one hand, they've been through scandals, public betrayals, and time apart during Thug's jail time. On the other, they've consistently shown moments of loyalty and deep affection for each other.
Fans are divided, some believe the cheating allegations marked the end for the couple, while others think the couple is simply keeping their romance private as they rekindle their love. Thug's lyrics and Mariah's emotional messages suggest that no matter the circumstances, their bond runs deeper than the world thinks.
While her relationship with Thug has often dominated headlines, Mariah has carved out her own space in the music industry. She began her career with her 2018 EP To Die For, since then, she has released several acclaimed projects, like Master (2019), Ry Ry World (2021), To Be Eaten Alive (2023), and Hearts Sold Separately (2025).
Her dreamy R&B sound has won her collaborations with big names like NBA YoungBoy and Tee Grizzley, proving she's more than just Thug's partner. However, her career hasn't been without setbacks. In May 2025, she was arrested for an alleged battery incident in Atlanta, which briefly overshadowed her musical accomplishments.
With Young Thug's music continuing to reference Mariah, it's clear she'll always be a part of his story, whether as a current love or a lasting muse.
