A demon-fighting K-pop girl group with magical swords, dazzling stage outfits, and chart-topping music? Well, the idea didn't just impress the audience, but broke the internet. Netflix's recent release, KPop Demon Hunters, released in June 2025, has left the internet obsessed. It is an animated action-fantasy featuring unique neon visuals, chart-topping music, and a story about an all-girl K-pop group secretly saving the world from demons, which has surprised the film experts with its success. Weeks after the release, the film is dominating Netflix's global Top 10 list, and fans are now asking one big question: "Will there be a Kpop Demon Hunters 2?"
There is indeed good news for the fans of Kpop Demon Hunters because Netflix has confirmed that a sequel to the film is officially in the works. Earlier in an interview with Screen Rant, the co-director of the film, Maggie Kang, highlighted that there were many possible angles about the film which were left to explore, teasing fans with the ideas about backstories of protagonists, 'Mira' and 'Zoey'. At the same time, her fellow director, Chris Appelhans, agreed with their views in an interview with People and said:
"There are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story."
At the same time, The Wrap reported that Netflix and Sony Animation are already planning for not one out of two sequels for Kpop Demon Hunters. It could be a TV series, a short film, or even a stage musical to expand the universe. However, there is one major catch to the good news, as the makers are also planning a live-action remake. Although several live-action films are being made from animated films, some fans are sceptical whether that could match the stunning, stylised visuals of Kpop Demon Hunters, which formed the soul of the film.
Irrespective of whether the makers chose to make a TV series, short film or a stage musical, there is no denying that the film has made an important impact through the streaming giant, Netflix. Ever since its release, Kpop Demon Hunters has become Netflix's most-watched animated original of the year. Simultaneously, fictional girl group Huntr/x is also charting in real life. Plus, the catchy songs of the film, like Golden, have become a part of Billboard's Top 100 and are leading Spotify's global K-pop playlists. The success itself explains why makers are keen to make a sequel to the film.
Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans directed Kpop Demon Hunters. It features an ensemble cast who lent their voice to the different characters in the film, which include Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ken Jeong. Kpop Demon Hunters is made from a blend of Korean mythology, K-pop culture, and advanced animation. It follows the journey of a girl group, Huntr/x, as they battle a demon boy band, the Saja Boys, while trying to deal with fame, ups and downs in their friendships and supernatural elements.
