Veteran actress and singer, Sulakshana Pandit,, known for her melodious voice and memorable screen presence, passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 71. She took her last breath at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai after suffering from a prolonged illness. Her brother and music composer, Lalit Pandit, confirmed the news to Midday and revealed she passed away around 8:00 pm and her funeral would take place on November 7, 2025. Sulakshana's demise marks the end of an era for Bollywood fans who cherished her contributions both as a playback singer and as a screen actress.
Apart from her professional achievements, Sulakshana Pandit's personal life drew attention for her unfulfilled love story with the legendary actor, Sanjeev Kumar. The actress reportedly fell in love with him during the filming of Uljhan in 1975. Soon, she went ahead and proposed to him in marriage. However, the actor's heart was set on Hema Malini, who had already rejected his proposal. According to The The Times of India, this rejection left him emotionally unavailable, and he never tied the knot with Sulakshana, who, in turn, chose to remain unmarried for her entire life.

The duo's connection was more than just on-screen chemistry. Sulakshana often described their bond as the deepest love that she had ever experienced with anyone. She emphasised that their sensitive and emotional nature was a result of them being Cancerians. Together, they went on to work on several films, including Waqt Ki Deewar, Chehre Pe Chehra, Uljhan, and Apnapan. As per Filmfare, she once noted that Sanjeev was a solitary soul, and marriage simply did not fit into his destiny. Despite his demise in 1985, Sulakshana never sought another relationship and kept him in her memories.

Sulakshana Pandit's demise came after a long period of ill health. According to news reports, she suffered cardiac arrest at the age of 71. Her death marked the end of a lot of professional highs and personal heartbreaks. Earlier in 1985, the loss of Sanjeev Kumar had deeply affected her, resulting in severe depression and emotional distress at times. Despite these challenges, she rebuilt her life, and her love for him remained unmatched.
