Why Did Hrithik Roshan And Sussanne Khan Divorce? Misunderstanding, Affairs And The Huge Alimony

But way before making his debut, Hrithik was hopelessly in love with Sanjay and Zarine Khan’s daughter, Sussanne Khan.

After dating for six years, Hrithik got married to Sussanne Khan in a private ceremony. It was a small, intimate affair with just family and close friends, avoiding any large-scale celebrations or outside guests. However, after 13 years of blissful married life, Hrithik and Sussanne filed for a divorce in 2013, which was finalised in 2014.

Even after their divorce, Hrithik and Sussanne enjoy a great bond. While their divorce proceeding was carried on, neither Hrithik nor Sussanne ever spoke ill about each other. But despite having so much love for one another, why did the two part ways?

It was a chance encounter at the traffic signal that made him fall in love with her. She was back from LA after her studies, and he was not even a star. The couple then met at the engagement party of the actor’s sister, Sunaina Roshan. Soon, they fell in love, and he would write her letters and poems to profess his love for her.

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan little grown together in love. In a throwback interview, Sussanne’s mother, Zarine Khan, revealed that Hrithik had been with Sussanne from the days he had a stutter. She also revealed that Sussanne vowed to stay away from sweets before the release of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, for Hrithik’s success.

Hrithik and Sussanne had tied the knot on December 20, 2000, breaking many hearts. Since Hrithik is Hindu and Sussanne is Muslim, their wedding was neither in Hindu style nor a nikaah. They had exchanged their wedding vows in the presence of their family and friends. Soon after their wedding, Hrithik and Sussanne welcomed their sons, Hrehaan Roshan and Hridaan Roshan.

Everything was going smoothly in Hrithik and Sussanne’s lives when suddenly the news of their divorce broke. It was a shocker not just for their fans but also for their families. Sussanne’s mother, Zarine Khan, once revealed that her daughter and son-in-law would never be apart and said:

“A wild wind may come and go, but it will never blow their home away.”

But soon after, Hrithik and Sussanne filed for mutual divorce. When they parted ways, there were a lot of murmurs doing the rounds, while some said Sussanne was cheated on, as Hrithik's link-up rumours with Barbara Mori were all over the place. Others claimed that they separated due to Sussanne's affair with Arjun Rampal, as she was spotted dining with him the next day after filing for divorce from Hrithik. However, Sussanne and Hrithik never really opened up about their divorce.

Hrithik’s father and ace filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan, once said in an interview with Yuvaa that the couple parted ways due to a misunderstanding. He added that the couple was in love but had a misunderstanding that they were unable to solve. Speaking about the same, he said:

“Whatever has happened has happened between the couple, for me Sussanne is Sussanne. They were the ones who fell in love, they were the ones who had a misunderstanding, and they have to solve it. For us, she came to our house, and she is still a member of the house."

Did Sussanne Khan demand Rs. 400 crores as alimony?

Soon after Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan’s divorce, rumours circulated that Sussanne had demanded a whopping Rs 400 crores in alimony from Hrithik Roshan. It was also reported that Hrithik, who has always been a doting husband and father, had agreed to give 380 crores in settlement to her. Soon after the reports, Hrithik Roshan addressed the rumours and rubbished the reports. Talking about the alimony, Hrithik and Sussanne’s lawyers revealed:

“They (Hrithik-Sussanne) have got divorced in a very unique and elegant way where there is no alimony and not a single document drawn up between them.”
