Why Hoda Kotb Quit 'Today' Show After 7 Yrs? Inside Her New Life With Daughters In USD 2.9M Home

Hoda Kotb became a familiar face for the USA that fans woke up to on Today for more than seven years. Her captivating personality, humour, quick wit and interesting interviews made her one of the most beloved anchors in morning television.

So, when the 60-year-old journalist announced in late 2024 that she was stepping away from the show after nearly three decades at NBC, and seven years as co-anchor, fans were left upset. At the same time, everyone had a deep curiosity about why someone who was at the peak of her career walked away.

Why did Hoda Kotb leave NBC's Today show after 7 years?

After leaving NBC's Today, Hoda Kotb once appeared as a guest on the show and clearly opened up about the heartfelt personal reason which made her step down. She explained that the turning point in her life came earlier this year when her youngest daughter, six-year-old Hope, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The former anchor mentioned that any child with a similar diagnosis needs constant attention and care, and she wanted to give her full time to Hope. Sharing her thought process, Hoda said:

"As anyone with a child who has Type 1, especially a little kid, you're constantly watching, you're constantly monitoring, you're constantly checking, which is what I did all the time when I was at 'Today.' You're distracted. I can be here and sweating what's happening to Hope in the morning and in the night, or I can be there and feel relief that I can see."

Huda revealed that if she had continued to work, her schedule at NBC would require her to wake up at 3:15 am, juggle with the tasks of working on live TV, and then rushing back home to care for Hope. She felt torn between her career and her kids. However, she didn't want to leave behind her daughter or her health, which made her take the big decision.

Also, Huda's mornings are now about meditation, journaling, workouts and more habits that she wasn't able to pursue earlier. Most importantly, she has the time to be present with her children. Additionally, the red carpets and studio lights in her life are now replaced with bike rides, tennis matches, and school drop-offs. Huda has also launched Joy 101, a wellness brand focused on living a more grounded and balanced life. She credits her daughters and this new, slower pace for inspiring her. Even her ex-fiance, Joel Schiffman, remains part of the picture. Sharing how her mornings look now, Huda revealed:

"I've slowed everything down. I go on bike rides with my kids, and we play tennis. Things that I never thought of. When I'm driving them around, they're telling me stories that I wasn't in the car to hear before. Haley came with me to the gym, and she sat on the sledge, and I pushed it".
