Just weeks after Astronomer CEO, Andy Byron went viral for his extramarital affair scandal at a Coldplay concert, another corporate leader is making global headlines. Well, this time for a very different reason. The name in the spotlight is Piotr Szczerek, a Polish businessman and CEO.

Who is Polish CEO, Piotr Szczerek, going viral for the tennis cap controversy?

Piotr Szczerek is no small name in Poland. He is the co-founder and chief executive of Drogbruk, a paving, fencing, and landscaping company. He had launched the company back in 1999 with his wife, Anna. Over the years, the couple built Drogbruk into a respected brand in Poland. Piotr and Anna are not just renowned entrepreneurs but also active members of Poland's tennis community. The businessman, known for being one of the self-made millionaires in Poland, is reportedly a passionate tennis fan who often plays doubles with his wife. They even own a private tennis court at their residence in Kalisz. At the same time, they have actively supported Polish tennis associations and young athletes via Drogbruk. Until this month, Piotr was better known as a sports enthusiast and business leader than a controversial public figure. However, all that has changed in seconds after his actions at the US Open went viral.

What happened with Piotr Szczerek and his wife, Anna, at the US Open 2025?

The now viral tennis cap controversy began after Polish tennis star, Kamil Majchrzak, shocked fans by beating ninth seed, Karen Khachanov. In an act of gratitude, Kamil walked to the stands to sign autographs to fans and gave a hand-signed cap to a young boy, Brok, waiting to interact with him. Soon, the internet erupted. Social media users found Piotr and his wife, Anna's social media handles before flooding them with negative comments. Additionally, the netizens who didn't even take the services of his company began to fill review sites with negative ratings for Drogbruk. Now, within days, the company's Google rating has dropped to just 1.3 stars. On the other hand, Kamil reached out to find the boy, eventually meeting Brok in person and gifting him a replacement signed cap along with extra memorabilia. Meanwhile, Piotr has issued an apology for the incident and penned:

"I would like to unequivocally apologise to the boy who was harmed, his family, as well as all the fans and the player himself. I made a serious mistake. In the emotions, in the crowd's joy after the victory, I was convinced that the tennis player was handing the cap in my direction, for my sons, who had earlier asked for autographs."
