Besides collaboration in films, Julie also runs a shop with her husband, Paul. The shop is in Rhinebeck, New York and is called Samuel’s Sweet Shop. The couple co-owns the shop with The Walking Dead actor, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and his wife, Hilarie Burton.

Paul Rudd met Julie for the first time in his publicist’s office soon after his film, Clueless, became a hit. Julie used to work in that office during that time. Speaking to Marie Claire UK, Paul revealed that Julie was the first person he met in the UK. He shared how he got connected to her when they started talking. In his words:

"We started talking and there was a maturity with her – she had experienced some tragedy in her life, I had too, and the impression I got was, wow, this is a woman. This isn't a girl."
