After the release of Wednesday's Season 2 part 1, there is a new name creating mystery around the shadowy halls of Nevermore Academy, 'Ophelia.' In the first four episodes, 'Wednesday Addams' faced run-ins with monsters, mysteries, and family secrets. However, the next part might focus on one of the most intriguing plot twists that might come from within her bloodline.
The speculation gained momentum after Jenna Ortega clarified that Lady Gaga won't play the role of a new teacher, leaving fans in doubt about her playing 'Ophelia'. Although nothing is confirmed, here is everything to know about 'Ophelia' on Wednesday.
'Ophelia' is no stranger to the Addams family lot. According to the original comics by Charles Addams and the subsequent adaptations over decades, 'Ophelia' is 'Morticia's elder sister, but with a contrasting style, golden hair, and flowery dresses. Her name is inspired by the tragic Shakespearean character in Hamlet, making her role a mysterious mix of innocence and unease. You won't be able to tell what her real intentions are. In the 1960s ABC sitcom, Carolyn Jones famously played both 'Morticia' and 'Ophelia' by changing into a blonde wig. Although later adaptations of the comics kept her role brief, Netflix's Wednesday might give her a bigger and darker role.
In Wednesday season 2, part 1, we saw that 'Ophelia' is not just Morticia's long-lost sister, but even she shares the same rare psychic abilities as 'Wednesday'. 'Uncle Foster' mistakenly reveals that 'Ophelia was once a patient at the Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. 'Morticia reluctantly confirms that her sister "pushed her psychic ability too far," leading Grandmama to commit her to the asylum against Morticia's wishes. However, a moment of her being found 'screaming in the quad' with black tears remains. 'Ophelia' left Willow Hill two decades ago, but her latest update is a chilling mystery.
Since the mystery of 'Ophelia' surfaced online, fans are trying to connect the dots. Amid this, Jenna Ortega revealed that Lady Gaga is not playing the role of a legendary Nevermore teacher that was previously on Netflix. It led to fan theories that Gaga could play 'Ophelia' in Season 2's second half. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays 'Morticia', added to the wait and said:
'I feel she is probably related somehow, genetically, to the Addams family.'.

If Lady Gaga is playing 'Ophelia', her entry can bring many new revelations about the Addams family's past, Nevermore's dark history, and 'Wednesday's psychic struggles. Meanwhile, Wednesday season 2's part 1 ended after chaos ensued at Willow Hill with empty cells, escaped patients, and more. So, 'Ophelia's return at this perfect time can either support Wednesday or destroy her.
You can watch the first four episodes of Wednesday season 2 on Netflix, and the second part will be released by September 3, 2025.
