Many people believe that Kalyani has begun her career in the entertainment world with South Indian films. However, not many people know that the actress worked as an assistant production designer in Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3. She then went on to work as an assistant art director in the Tamil film, Iru Mugan.

After her acting debut in 2017, Kalyani appeared in films such as Chitralahari, Hero, Varane Avashyamund, Maanaadu, Hridayam, Bro Daddy, Thallumaala, Sesham Mike-il Fathima, and many others.

Born in Chennai, Kalyani is the daughter of filmmaker, Priyadarshan, the man behind the iconic films like Hungama, Hulchul, Garam Masala, Chup Chup Ke, Bhagam Bhag, Malamaal Weekly, Dhol, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and De Dana Dan. Kalyani’s mother is the popular Malayalam actress of the 90s, Lissy.

Priyadarshan and Lissy tied the knot on December 13, 1990. Lissy was converted to Hinduism and had changed her name to Lakshami Priyadarshan. The couple welcomed two kids, Kalyani and Siddharth, into their lives and were living happily. But it was in 2014 that the couple filed for divorce and parted ways after a long battle.

The 2025 superhero horror fantasy, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, directed by Dominic Arun, changed Kalyani Priyadarshan’s career forever. The actress got the title of the first Indian female superhero. Her character, ‘Chandra’ was terrific and her performance won millions of hearts worldwide. Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra collected Rs 202 crore worldwide in 13 days of its release. Not just the first female superhero, but Kalyani became the first female actress in Malayalam to have made Rs. 200 crore at the box office.

As the film touched many milestones, Kalyani revealed being overwhelmed by people’s response to the film. Speaking about her first female superhero image, she said:

“It’s honestly overwhelming when people say that, because when I first signed on, I didn’t look at it as making history. Superheroes have always inspired us to dream bigger, and if Chandra being India’s first female superhero gives even one girl the belief that women can be powerful in her own way, then that’s a responsibility I’m proud to carry.”

After the release of Hridayam, it was widely rumoured that Kalyani Priyadarshan was dating Mohanlal’s son and her Hridayam co-star, Pranav Mohanlal. When the actress was asked about it, she revealed that she had known Pranav since childhood, as they are close family friends.
