It has been several days since the world of music lost its brightest stars after a heartbreaking plane crash claimed the lives of Grammy-winning country singer and songwriter, Brett James, his wife, Melody Carole and her daughter, Meryl Wilson. However, new details about the singer's last will have recently emerged. According to the court documents obtained by US Weekly, Brett had prepared a will two years before his demise to ensure that his estate and wealth would be handled exactly how he wished

Who will receive Brett James' fortune after his demise? 

According to online sources, Brett James had a net worth of around USD 20 million. Recent court documents filed by his business manager, Catherine Moore, on September 29, 2024 and have requested to be appointed as the executor of Brett James' estate. The will, signed on September 5, 2023, reveals that his four children — sons Preston, Samuel, and David, and daughter Clare — will inherit all his assets. The children were shared by Brett and his ex-wife, Sandra Cornelius-Little, with whom he had a long relationship before marrying his new wife, Melody, in 2021. The documents filed in court mention that they would receive the inheritance from a trust.

It indicates that all his personal belongings, vehicles, furniture and his ownership interests in Cornman Music and Believer Artist Management are tied to his career. Brett even stated that Catherine would be his first choice for executor, followed by a woman named Kella in her absence. In the event that both are absent, his eldest son, Preston, would serve as the backup executor. The document further elaborated that in the case of his ex-wife's death, Preston would take on the role of guardian for his younger siblings.

The tragic plane crash took place on September 18, 2025, in North Carolina, when the single-engine aircraft piloted by Brett went down in an open field. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), there were no survivors in the crash. The preliminary report issued by the NTSB revealed that Brett requested a 'visual approach' while attempting to land. But took a full turn, which led the aircraft to lose control, and it came down killing everyone on board. His new wife, Melody Carole, 59 and stepdaughter, Meryl, 28, were also killed instantly in the crash. Expressing his shock at the incident, Jason Aldean took to his social media and penned:

"Heartbroken to hear of the loss of my friend Brett James tonight. He helped change my life. Honoured to have met him and worked with him."

Before tying the knot with Melody Carole in 2021, Brett had been married to Sandra Cornelius-Little for a long time, who largely stayed out of the public eye while raising their four children. Despite his fame, Brett often credited his family for being the biggest pillar of support in his life. During a 2009 interview with The Oklahoman, he mentioned that Sandra was the first person to always listen to his songs and share feedback, including his hit, When The Sun Goes Down.
