When Will Ryan Gosling's 'Project Hail Mary' Release On OTT? Know The Release Window And Platform

Ryan Gosling's latest sci-fi film, Project Hail Mary, has made a strong box-office debut. Since the film's release on March 20, 2026, it has been produced by Amazon MGM Studios and has gone on to earn a reported USD 200 million. Simultaneously, it is earning praises for the large-scale production, visuals, and gripping storyline. As audiences line up at cinemas, many fans are now looking forward to its OTT release.

Project Hail Mary's OTT release window and platform

Until now, Project Hail Mary has been screening in theatres with no official announcement of its streaming date. But industry trends suggest some estimates. The majority of the high-budget films today take around 90 days to move from theatres to streaming platforms. Following this pattern, the film is expected to arrive on Prime Video around June 2026.

Notably, the makers' platform choice is unsurprising, given that Amazon MGM Studios produce the film. According to the reports, Prime Video will be the primary streaming home for the movie at least in key markets like the United States and Canada. Subsequently, it will be released on OTT in India and other countries.

Will the release of Project Hail Mary be delayed?

Although Project Hail Mary is likely to be released in June 2026, the OTT release might shift based on the film's reception in theatres. The majority of big-budget films often stay in theaters longer if they perform well at the box office. Similarly, if Project Hail Mary performs well globally, Amazon is likely to delay its digital release to increase its overall box office revenue. On the other hand, if its collection decreases, then the studio might release it early on OTT. In some cases, films have even arrived on OTT platforms within 60 days of their theatrical release.

Why is the release time of Project Hail Mary important for streaming?

The decision about when any film will be released on OTT is highly strategic. Project Hail Mary is a high-investment project, and the makers primarily aim to recover its costs through its theatrical earnings. If the film stays in theatres for long, it will bring more profits for makers before it streams and earns through subscriptions and digital engagement. At the same time, the film was designed for a large-scale cinematic experience, featuring IMAX visuals and immersive sound. So, studios are undoubtedly encouraging a longer theatrical release.

More about Project Hail Mary

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed Project Hail Mary. It is based on Andy Weir's popular novel of the same name. The film follows the story of 'Ryland Grace', played by Ryan Gosling. He is a scientist who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory, only to realise he must save Earth from a major threat. Overall, the film is a mix of science, emotion, and survival, with a unique twist involving an unexpected alien ally. Sharing how having kids made him understand the film better, Ryan told People:

"I think, yeah, once you have kids, it's like those [decisions] are easy. It's an easy call to make. I think it's different for this character because he doesn't have that. And yeah, so it's much more of an existential crisis for him, too. And he doesn't believe in himself very much anyway, and I think that's also what's so relatable about his journey."
