When Sunjay Kapur Claimed Karisma Used Him As 'Rebound' After Abhishek, Denied Him Access To Kids

Businessman and industrialist, Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, after suffering an untimely heart attack. The tragic incident occurred while he was playing a game of polo in the UK. While there is still a debate about the exact cause of his death, the sudden demise of the 53-year-old has shocked the entertainment and business world. Amid this tragic news, an old claim of Sunjay has surfaced on the internet where he made shocking allegations about his ex-wife, Karisma Kapoor, during their messy divorce back around 2016. 

When Sunjay Kapur blamed Karisma for using him as a 'rebound' 

Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor tied the knot back in 2003, which drew significant media attention. It was due to the fact that the news came shortly after her broken engagement with Abhishek Bachchan. For those unaware, Kapoors and Bachchans are among the most popular filmy families and were already connected due to Shweta Bachchan's marriage to Nikhil Nanda. So, when Abhishek and Karisma's engagement was announced on Big B's 60th birthday, the nation was overjoyed, but the end of their bond left everyone surprised. 

As per a report from Cosmopolitan, Karisma's mother, Babita Kapoor, influenced her decision. Although she did marry Sunjay later, they separated in 2010. She went back with her kids to Mumbai and filed for divorce in 2014. When the duo was in the middle of a messy divorce, Sunjay made some serious allegations against the actress. As per Mumbai Mirror, the businessman mentioned that she married him for financial gains in a 'calculated and clinical' manner. He also alleged that she used him as a 'rebound' to get over her broken bond with Abhishek. 

Sunjay Kapur accused Karisma Kapoor of denying him access to his kids 

In the same report, the news portal revealed that Karisma wasn't a suitable wife and was not emotionally invested in their marriage. He mentioned that the actress was 'cruel' and denied him and his family access to their kids, Samaira and Kiaan, after their divorce. It all happened when Karisma withdrew her consent from their mutual divorce petition and replying to it, the actress's lawyer claimed:

"We will tell the court that he is causing great harm to the children's welfare by spreading false stories. We don't want a trial by the media."

After Sunjay Kapoor and Karisma filed for divorce, he dated Priya Sachdev for four years before tying the knot with her in 2017. They had two kids: a daughter, Safira Chatwal, from Priya's first marriage, and a son, Azarias, who was born in 2018. On ther other hand, Karisma looked after her kids, Samaira and Kiaan and didn't marry again. Moreover, Sunjay and Karisma continued to co-parent their kids by celebrating their birthdays and other occasions together.
