When George Clooney And Amal's Wedding Took Over Venice, Inside The Couple's Million Dollar Marriage

George Clooney and his wife and human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney, have kept a lot of aspects of their private lives under wraps. However, this low-key couple once made a huge splash and were at the centre of attention while celebrating their wedding festivities. Recently, billionaire Jeff Bezos garnered considerable attention with his Venetian wedding to Lauren Sanchez. However, once George and Amal had also taken over the Italian city with their star-studded marriage ceremony. 

George Clooney, who was earlier married to Talia Balsam, did not hold back on his second shot at commitment. The actor and Amal went all out with the expense and gave the world a spectacle to behold with their celebration of love. Here's an inside look at the wedding festivities of George and Amal Clooney. 

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's wedding turned into a huge event after the paparazzi got wind of it

Five months after proposing to Amal, the love of his life, George and his fiancee made their way to Venice. Though the couple had not revealed their plans to anyone, the paparazzi somehow got wind of it and were waiting for the to-be-weds. A few hours after the trip, Amal and George held separate bachelor and bachelorette bashes on September 26, 2014. In her bachelorette, Amal looked radiant as ever in her Alexander McQueen cocktail dress. While George looked every bit the dashing to-be-groom. Talking about how the wedding became a huge event after the paparazzi showed up, George shared with The Hollywood Reporter:

"We didn't tell anybody else that we were going to do it, but eventually somebody figured it out. It became an event and once we got on the boat, there were so many paparazzi and so many people standing there waiting. We were sitting down in the boat, and I was like, 'You know what? Why are we hiding? Why are we ducking? We shouldn't be ashamed of this.' And we got up and waved."

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's wedding ceremony could rival any red carpet event. All the A-listers of the event attended the ceremony to celebrate the couple's forever commitment. Emily Blunt and her husband, John Krasinski, Bono, Anna Wintour, Bill Murray and Matt Damon, among many more, made their appearance at the wedding. Some stars, such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who were married at the time, and Ben Affleck, as well, could not attend the festivities due to work commitments. 

For her wedding on September 27, 2014, Amal Alamuddin chose a beautiful ivory gown by Oscar de la Renta. After two months of planning, the bride-to-be slipped into a lacey wedding gown with appliques and hand-embroidered embellishments. And George had put on a Giorgio Armani tuxedo, tailor-made for him. The 7-star resort where the wedding took place was covered in white roses, lilies and hydrangeas as Amal walked down the aisle towards George, who had vowed never to get married again. 

As per an E! News report, the ceremony was filled with motifs of the couple's relationship. During their first dance, the couple swayed to the song, 'Why Shouldn't I?' This was the exact song which was playing when George proposed to Amal. The couple cut a four-tiered grand cake, which, along with around 250 bottles of champagne, kept the celebration going until 5 a.m. Then George and Amal legally sealed the deal in a five-minute civil ceremony at the municipal office, officially becoming husband and wife.
