Zubeen Garg left the world too soon. The singer passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, with his sudden death at 52 sending shockwaves among his fans and industry colleagues. He is renowned for his Bollywood melodies and his significant contributions to the Assamese music industry. Zubeen's unnatural death was previously reported to have occurred while drowning during scuba diving in Singapore. Recently, Assam CM have hinted at what might have actually caused his demise.
Zubeen Garg's last activity before his untimely passing was scuba diving. The singer just wanted to have some fun and unwind amid nature a day before his big stage performance at the 4th Northeast India Festival. According to reports, Zubeen took a dive into the waters, but was unable to make it back up before the waves proved fatal for him. The Assamese locals who accompanied him to the sea saw his body floating lifeless, took him to the hospital treatment, where he was proclaimed dead.
However, a report by PTI revealed that there was more to Zubeen's death than what is already known to the public. Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a press conference that a video has been circulating, showing Zubeen Garg jumping into the water body while wearing a life jacket. Referring to a recorded visual of the singer's last activity, he mentioned that after the 1.26 mark, Zubeen was seen returning to the yacht. However, he stated that there was more to it. As per the PTI report, the Assam CM shared that "Zubeen died while swimming without a life jacket."
The report cited that the singer took a second dive into the sea, this time without a life jacket. Zubeen made the decision because he was feeling uncomfortable swimming with the protective garment on. He might have wanted to have more fun, which backfired on him, leading to his death.

They shared an official statement that included the information. It can be read as:
"We later learned that a few members of the local Assamese community had taken him on a yacht visit, of which we had no prior knowledge."
The statement also included their grief over the unexpected, fatal accident. According to it, Zubeen passed away at the Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 PM.
