Taylor Michel Momsen is a popular American singer, songwriter, and model who rose to fame with the teen drama, Gossip Girl. Her character, ‘Jenny Humphrey,’ became immensely popular on the show. Her appearance in the show became irregular, and by the end of the first half of the fourth season, she had appeared in just four seasons.

After the fourth season, Taylor left the show as a regular cast member. Taylor later revealed that she quit acting to focus on her music career. But during her time on the show, there were many reports of her irregular behavior and of picking fights with her co-stars, especially with the show’s lead actress, Leighton Meester. Taylor Momsen was reportedly jealous of Leighton Meester’s success

While filming Gossip Girl, both Taylor and Leighton were also building their careers as singers. Reports of possible jealousy from Taylor’s side surfaced, as she believed the makers were giving Leighton too much attention. Taylor was the first cast member from the show to cross over into music, and she even has her own band, The Reckless.

But the only Gossip Girl cast member who was musically recognised was Leighton Meester. On top of that, Leighton’s songs were also featured on the show, which irked Taylor. During that time, a source from the set revealed:

“Taylor is not happy that Gossip Girl has been playing Leighton’s music on the show, and they have never asked to play any of her songs. It’s creating a lot of tension on set.”

Taylor Momsen felt cheated by the partiality she faced

Apart from promoting Leighton Meester’s songs on the show, the makers also premiered Leighton’s music video, Somebody to Love, before its official release. This made Taylor psyched and created friction between the two. Revealing the reason behind Gossip Girl promoting Leighton’s songs on the show, a source stated:

“Leighton’s pop music fits the theme of Gossip Girl more than Taylor’s punk rock songs.”

Taylor Momsen dismissed rumours of rivalry with Leighton Meester

When Taylor was asked about the news of a rivalry with Leighton Meester, she vehemently denied it and stated that the two were in different spaces. She revealed that any comparisons of their sounds are unwarranted. Taylor also pointed out that she isn’t close to any of the Gossip Girl cast. In her words:

“We're doing a different thing; she's putting out a pop record, which is awesome. We're all cordial and nice to each other, but we're not really friends outside of the set.”

Tim Gunn once called Taylor Momsen ‘pathetic’

Actor, Tim Gunn guest-starred as himself on the 6th episode of CW's fourth season of Gossip Girl and was not too impressed with Taylor Momsen. He branded Taylor as a ‘diva’ and also stated that her behaviour on the set was ‘pathetic’. Speaking to E! News, he said:

“What a diva! She was pathetic, she couldn't remember her lines, and she didn't even have that many. I thought to myself 'Why are we all being held hostage by this brat?"

In the same interaction, Tim also revealed that Taylor was on her cell phone throughout the shooting, and the veteran actor gave her some advice. Speaking about the same, he said:

“I'd say, 'You know, young lady, there are hundreds of thousands of girls who are just as attractive and even smarter than you. Why are you acting like this show is a huge burden on you?' She was on her phone during every break, I wanted to tell her, 'If you weren't on your BlackBerry, you can retain this stuff.'"

Taylor Momsen talked about her lengthy battle to get out of Gossip Girl

Taylor Momsen recently graced the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she talked about the biggest switch of her career. During the conversation, Taylor opened up about her decision to leave the hit series, Gossip Girl, in season four and revealed that getting out of the Gossip Girl contract was a lengthy battle. Recalling the same, she said:

“It was an easy decision for me. To actually get out of a contract was not easy. … It was a very long battle of me arguing [with] everyone and going, 'Get me outta this. I can't do this anymore. This is killing me. I have something else I want to do with my life, and it has nothing to do with this, and I can't be stuck here anymore.' You're called all the things that come along with, 'How dare you turn your back on something that's been so successful for you.'"
