Zach Cregger's Weapons doesn't gradually take you into the world of Maybrook; it throws you directly into the unsettling mystery of children's absence that will leave you thinking for weeks. It all starts when, on a Tuesday night in the small town of Maybrook, 17 children from the same class wake up, walk out of their homes, and vanish into the dark at 2:17 AM.
No one knows what happened, and this chilling mystery, with the impressive performances of Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, will keep you on the edge of your seat. While the film is doing wonders at the box office, several fans are confused over the exact meaning of its ending. Well, if you are one of them, let's understand the same.
Weapons opens with the voice of a young student, who tells a true story of what happened two years ago. We get to see 'Justine Gandy', a class teacher whose life takes a complete 360-degree turn after the disappearance of 17 kids in the town. Then there is 'Archer Graff', a desperate father whose son is among the missing. Finally, the focus lands on 'Alex', the only child who stayed home that night and might know the reality behind the mystery.
When the 17 children wake up at midnight and leave, no one sees them except 'Alex', a boy who did not leave his home. This marks the beginning of the story, which turns into a thrilling tale of witchcraft, possession, and a predator who is hiding his real identity in front of everyone. 'Alex's life had earlier changed when his mom brought a sick aunt, 'Gladys', to their home, who came with a dark, hidden agenda. She uses her spell to paralyse 'Alex's parents and urges him to steal things from his classmates to make them disappear at 2:17 AM.
When the film progresses, it is revealed that 'Gladys', who has turned the town upside down, is a kind of witch who appears in weird and ugly visions. She has kept the children in the basement and feeds off their health while 'Justine' and 'Archer' get on to the task of finding the kids. When 'Gladys' control over the locals grows, the possessed parents try to break into 'Alex's hiding place, who fights back and takes the special stick that 'Gladys' uses to control her victims. He wraps her hair around it and snaps it in two to break the spell. It instantly ends her spell that frees all the children who chase 'Gladys' on these streets.

In the end, the kids get hold of 'Gladys' and feeds on her like a prey. Although they survive after the incident, it leaves an emotional scar on them. Some regain the ability to speak within a year. On the other hand, authorities send away 'Alex's parents, and he is sent to live with a kind aunt. Overall, the twists, search for children and the haunting idea of how evil can be around you by the Barbarian fame Zach Cregger will leave you thinking at the end.
