Vijayta Pandit Recalls Her Sister, Sandhya Singh's Missing And Tragic Death, 'Uska Skeleton Mila...'

Vijayta Pandit was one of the most charming and sought-after actresses of the 1980s. She entered the world of acting with her debut film, Love Story, in 1981. After her spot-on performance in her debut film, she starred in films like Mohabbat, Car Thief, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, Deewana Tere Naam Ka, and Zalzala. 

Vijayta Pandit talked about her sister, Sandhya Singh’s death

In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Vijayta talked about various aspects of her life. In one of the segments of the interview, the actress recalled the tragic moments from her sister, Sandhya Singh’s death. Talking about the tragedy, Vijayta recalled:

“Socha nahi tha all of a sudden aesa hoga. She was quiet happy in her marriage and she used to stay here in Mumbai. Patan ahi kya hua, humko to wo mili hi nahi, uska skeleton mila. Pehle family ne bola ki wokahi ghum gayi hai, hum dhoondte the har jagah, phir pata chala uska ek skeleton ek yahaan ek wahaan. And you won’t believe, Sulakshana didi (their elder sister) ko aaj bhi ye nahi maloom hai ke she is no more.”

Vijayta Pandit’s sister’s abduction and tragic death

Vijayta Pandit’s sister, Sandhya, was married to a Customs Officer, Jai Prakash Singh. On December 13, 2012, Sandhya Singh went missing after she left home to go to a bank. After an FIR was filed, police started a frantic search for Sandhya. Her siblings, music composer duo, Jatin-Lalit and yesteryear actress, Vijayta Pandit, also searched desperately for her. However, after a month, Sandhya’s partial skeleton was found in a marshy land near Palm Beach Road.

Police had recovered Sandhya’s clothes and chain from the area, and it was Vijayta who confirmed that the remains were of her sister’s. In a throwback interview, Vijayta recalled how she identified her sister’s belongings and said:

“The police called us to identify if the remains found at the marsh were of my sister's. My brother Lalit was the first to reach the police station followed by my husband Aadesh and I. The moment I saw the belongings I knew they were Sandhya's. I knew my sister more than anyone else. Later Lalit also confirmed the same.”

After Sandhya’s tragic death, her son, Raghuveer, who was then 22, was arrested in connection with the case.
