Whomsoever has been active on any social media or follows any celebrity must have at least once seen the eccentric, wide-eyed toy with a mischievous grin lovingly known as Labubu. They have become this year's favoured accessories with designer bags, and many celebrities, including Ananya Panday, Lisa, and Rihanna, have been seen carrying them along with their thousand-dollar designer handbags. Now these cute companions have made their debut at one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, Wimbledon. And leading the charge? None other than Bollywood's style icon, Urvashi Rautela. The actress, known for her experimental red carpet moments and viral fashion statements, has once again become the 'very first' by taking Labubu to a sports event, and fans are loving it.
Wimbledon has always been more than just a tennis tournament; it's a fashion spectacle both on and off the court. Unlike any other sports event, the bleachers at Wimbledon are filled with celebrities from around the world. Over the years, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has hosted royals, Hollywood stars, and Bollywood elites dressed in their best summer whites and fascinators.
This year, Urvashi Rautela added a dramatic dose of whimsy and couture to the Centre Court with her striking appearance during the semi-finals. She was dressed in a white knee-length gown by acclaimed Lebanese designer, Ali Asaad. The gown, was somewhat reminiscent of an English bridal ensemble, it featured soft shoulder ribbion bows, a corset-style bodice with a sweetheart neckline, and a flowing lace-embellished A-line skirt. However, it wasn't her dress that was grabbing attention.
In her hand, she carried a timeless Hermes Birkin handbag, but what made the accessory truly unforgettable were not one but the four Labubu dolls clipped onto the bag, they were playfully dangling on the bag like the eccentric charms they are. The contrast of high fashion outfit and those outright ugly yet cute toys was both bizarre and brilliant, and in true Urvashi fashion, she became the subject of immediate online buzz.
Once Urvashi posted her Wimbledon photos online, the internet wasted no time in doing what it does best: memes. The comments section exploded with tongue-in-cheek reactions. "Uravshi Maata and her Labubus," commented one user. Another joked, "1st Indian woman to carry four labubus." One fan hilariously commented, "Urvashi Rautela, whose film Daku Maharaj crossed 105 crores at the box office, who has a temple in her name in Uttarakhand, makes history by becoming the first woman in the world to attend Wimbledon in a white gown and a purse with four Labubu dolls."
