Social Media has become a platform of hyperconnectivity for many of its users. People share anything and everything pertaining to their daily lives on social media for the world to know. Recently, a chilling case of alleged domestic abuse and harassment has emerged from Lucknow, where the wife of a police constable has been found dead. The reason of her death is reported to be suicide. However, the most shocking part of it all is that before her death, the woman, namely Saumya Kashyap, had posted a video on her social media account. In the video, she has accused her in-laws of harassment and threats. The video has now gone viral and has raised many questions, speculation and rumours.
Saumya Kashyap was a 24-year-old woman and the wife of Uttar Pradesh police constable, Anurag Singh, who is part of the Eagle Mobile Unit currently stationed at Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) Police Station. It is being reported that the two got married just four months ago. Saumya was reportedly found dead hanging from a ceiling fan in her rented residence in Mamapur Bana in Lucknow on July 27, 2025. The incident has garnered national attention and public outrage because of the video Saumya posted on her social media minutes before her death.
Minutes before her death, Saumya uploaded a heart-wrenching video to her Instagram account, where she was crying and accusing her in-laws of harassment, mental torture, and pressuring her husband to remarry. She claimed that her brother-in-law threatened to kill her and that her husband’s uncle, who she said is a practising lawyer, advised Anurag to murder her, promising he would handle the legal consequences. In the video, which has since gone viral, a visibly injured Saumya is showing bruises on her face and arms as proof of physical abuse. She could be seen holding a dupatta that had been tied to the ceiling fan. It is being reported that shortly after the video, she ended her life.
The local police were alerted after Soumya’s video began gaining traction on social media. Officers from BKT Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after and confirmed her death. A forensic team was dispatched to the place to collect evidence, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities have stated that a formal FIR will be registered once a written complaint is submitted by Saumya’s family, who are travelling from Mainpuri to Lucknow after they were informed about their daughter's demise.
Initial investigations have indicated that Saumya’s marital life has been strained for some time now. Sources are reportedly suggesting that the couple’s love marriage soon turned sour after Anurag’s family began interfering in their life and threatening Saumya. Reports have also suggested that Saumya had previously left her husband’s home due to tension but had returned recently.
