Will Tiger Woods Face Harsh Legal Penalty For DUI Case? Attorney Says, 'We're Going To Slam...'

Tiger Woods is currently in the spotlight for being involved in a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida on March 27, 2026. While no serious injuries were reported, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after showing signs of impairment and refusing a urinalysis test, despite his breathalyser reading of triple zeros for alcohol. Following the incident, fans and legal officials have been dissecting the case and discussing the sportsperson's future. Recently, an Orlando attorney, drawing on his understanding of Florida law, shared the likely legal consequences Tiger might face.

Attorney predicts a harsh punishment for Tiger Woods

Following Tiger Woods' rollover crash on March 27, 2026, he is in a dire situation. Matthew Olszewski, an Orlando attorney who specialises in DUI cases, told The New York Post that Tiger will most likely be facing a "dogfight" in Martin County, Florida. Speaking of Tiger's offences, although he blew a 0.00 on a breathalyser, he was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful urine test after deputies observed signs of impairment. As a result, the 50-year-old golf star might face harsh punishment, with fewer chances of receiving a lighter sentence, according to Matthew.

According to the Orlando attorney, the prosecutors in Martin County may use Tiger Woods' case as an example to "prove a message" that no one is above the law, not even those with high-profile backgrounds like Tiger's. To save himself from a harsh legal outcome, the golf star needed to hire the best defence lawyer he knew, according to attorney Matthew Olszewski. He was quoted by The New York Post as saying:

"He's [Tiger Woods is] in for a legal dogfight, in my opinion. They're going to be trying to prove a message, and what bigger message to prove than, 'Even if you're Tiger Woods, you do this in our county and we're going to slam you.' Tiger is going to have to put up the best defence that you know he can buy and try to combat that."

Tiger Woods' previous accidents involving cars might influence his current DUI case

Tiger Woods has been involved in several high-profile car-related incidents, most notably a series of accidents and arrests from 2009 to 2026. The first mishap took place in November 2009 at Windermere, Florida. At that time, Tiger crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his home. While the physical injuries were minor, the event led to a massive media scandal regarding his personal life. After about eight years of calm, in May 2017, Tiger was arrested for DUI after being found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz, which had damage to the driver's side.

Following the incident, Tiger released a statement clarifying that his condition was due to an "unexpected reaction to prescribed medications." He emphasised that alcohol was not involved, a claim which was later proven true by a breathalyser test that showed a 0.00% blood alcohol level. The third accident took place in February 2021. It was a severe car accident where Tiger Woods' SUV veered off a road at high speed and rolled several times. He suffered major leg and ankle injuries, including open fractures that required multiple surgeries and a long recovery. According to Matthew Olszewski, these incidents might influence the judgment of Tiger's 2026 DUI case. He stated:

"Considering the county that he's in, given his prior DUI arrest and then his other driving issues that he's had in the past, I would suspect that the prosecutor and especially the judge will certainly take that into account going forward on how they handled the case."
