'The Last Of Us Season 3' Release Date, Will The Show End, Where To Watch, Storyline And More

Based on the popular video game franchise with the same name, the HBO Original series, The Last of Us, has captivated its audience worldwide. Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay, the show depicts a gritty and dangerous zombie-infested dystopia. Along with intense action, the show is well-loved for its exploration of emotional bonds and human nature in the face of grave danger. As fans eagerly await the third season and the next chapter of the story, an HBO insider has given official statements about what to expect from The Last of Us season 3. 

Release date of The Last of Us season 3 and what to expect from the new instalment 

Chief Content Officer of HBO, Casey Bloys, revealed to Variety that the third season of The Last of Us is slated for a 2027 release. The first season of the show focused on introducing the viewers to the post-apocalyptic world, which has been infected by a fungus which turns people into zombie-like creatures. The story also revolved around 'Joel' (Pedro Pascal) trying to escort a teenage girl, 'Ellie' (played by Bella Ramsay), to safety since she is immune to the infection. 

The second season's story was centred around another teenage girl, 'Abby' and her complex life of trying to survive in the harsh conditions of the dystopia. According to the premise of The Last of Us season 3, Bloys revealed that the focus will shift from the character of 'Abby'. However, he did not reveal if 'Joel' and 'Ellie's struggles will again take centre stage for the third season. Bloys also stated that Neil Druckmann, who was the director and writer of the show, has left after season 2, since he is also the creative director of Naughty Dog, the company responsible for creating The Last of Us video game. Talking about the director leaving, Bloys said:

"It was fantastic to have Neil involved. Most people don't realize he has a full-time job making games and running Naughty Dog. That's a big responsibility, so I understand why he needs to focus on that."

Will there be more seasons after The Last of Us season 3? 

As per the CCO, the upcoming season 3 of The Last of Us is not going to be the last season. There could be one or two more instalments. However, whether there will be one long season or two seasons depends on the co-creator and showrunner, Craig Mazin. In the interview, Bloys said:

"It's definitely planned for 2027. Whether we'll get two more seasons or just one long one - that's up to Craig."

As an HBO Max original, The Last of Us is available to watch on Max. However, for the Indian audience, both seasons 1 and 2 of this series are exclusively available on JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. And when The Last of Us season 3 hits the floors in 2027, fans can catch the latest episodes on the mentioned OTT platforms.
