Terence Stamp And Princess Diana's Unique Bond: Long Chats, Met For Tea, 'I Saw The Sadness In Her'

Terence Stamp passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 87. However, the actor has immortalised himself in the hearts of all the cinephiles with his iconic role of 'General Rod', the arch-nemesis of the superhero in the Superman franchise. Along with this, he was also known for his dashing looks and high-profile romances. However, Terence's platonic bond and personal friendship with Princess Diana has remained lesser-known among his fans. Here's everything to know about the connection they shared.

Terence Stamp 'saw the sadness' in Princess Diana

The marital life of Princess Diana and her husband, King Charles III, became a subject of controversy, as incompatibility reportedly grew between them. The princess also grew increasingly unhappy in her marriage with Charles, embarking on an alleged affair from the day they got engaged. During this time, Terence Stamp, who was a heart-throb and known for his romances with co-stars, lent his ears to Diana as the princess 'just wanted somebody to talk to who was a guy', as reported by Daily Mail.

Princess Diana, struggled with mental health issues due to her unhappy marriage, alleged pressure from the monarchy and the media's eagle-eyed attention on her. Terence revealed that he 'saw the sadness' in the princess. The actor stated that Diana was a believer in the institution of marriage. However, it did not turn out as she had expected. Terence was quoted as saying:

“We got on amazingly well... I saw the sadness in her because she’d gone into a marriage believing – she was a believer in marriage. And it didn’t turn out the way she expected it to.”

Terence Stamp had revealed how he met Princess Diana

As per Daily Mail, Terence had asked Oliver Hoare, an art dealer and a mutual friend of Princess Diana, to help them connect. The actor had told the mutual friend to ask the princess if she was up for a chat. Diana had agreed, and the two met and got on really well. However, everything between them was completely platonic, stated Terence. The actor said that they opened up to each other since Princess Diana needed a guy to talk to and give her opinions. Terence Stamp said:

“It wasn’t like that. I thought that was the last thing she needed really. She just wanted somebody to talk to that was a guy, who would give her objective opinions. And because of that we just kind of opened up to each other.”
