Deepika Padukone has been in headlines since the past few days, not for any role or a film but, for a demand. After becoming a mother, she has reportedly asked asked for an 8-hour shift to work on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, which has become a hot topic for debates in the industry. Some feel that her request is justified especially for new moms, while others say that film film schedules don’t work like regular office jobs. Recently, the director of Housefull 5, Tarun Mansukhani shared his point of view on the same.

Tarun Mansukhani’s opinion on 8-hour shift

Tarun Mansukhani who is all set for the release of his film, Housefull 5, expressed his openness to the idea but also said that the successful implementation of this needs proper planning. He said that if an actor wants an 8 hour shift, just make sure it is already mentioned in your contract, so that the entire team is prepared according to that. In an interaction with India Today, he said:

“No problem. Eight Hours? I’ll need that many extra days and then we’ll go ahead. That’s it. All I’m saying is, tell me in advance.”

Even though he understood and supported the idea of artists wanting to spend more time with their family, especially new moms, he also highlighted the logistical issues that happen during a film shoot. He mentioned that schedules often depend on a lot of things, including the availability of an actor, location access and financial restrictions. He said:

“You can’t come to me at 11am and say, ‘Oh, I need to leave at 5’. I have scenes to finish with other actors, a location that may not be available again, and a budget to look into.”

Deepika’s request for an 8-hour shift

Deepika Padukone was all set to return to work with Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, after her maternity break. As per multiple media reports, she made a few requests before committing to the film. The most talked about condition was her demand for an 8-hour workday, which she most probably asked so that she could balance her professional and personal life, especially after becoming a mother. Other reported conditions included limited Telugu dialogue, profit-sharing rights and higher pay. These requests were allegedly not accepted by the makers and Deepika later exited the project. Her exit generated a lot of buzz and started debates about working hours and actor demands in Bollywood. Many actors, directors and industry people have shared their point of views on the matter.
