Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is not only the longest-running sitcom on TV, but also a fan-favourite show. Each and every character, including 'Jethalal', 'Dayaben', 'Bhide', 'Madhavi', 'Tapu Sena' and more, has won many hearts through their stellar performances on screen. However, over the years, the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) has brought many changes to multiple characters, including 'Sonu', 'Tapu', 'Goli', and others. Makers have still not replaced the character, 'Dayaben', which was earlier played by Disha Vakani. Disha was last seen in 2017, before she took maternity leave. Recently, the show celebrated its 17th anniversary with the cast members.
Earlier this year, in June 2025, numerous speculations were circulating on the internet that Dilip Joshi, who plays 'Jethalal', and Munmun Dutta, who plays 'Babita', were quitting the show. However, later Munmun cleared the air by sharing a BTS video from the sets of TMKOC. After the end of the reboot 'Bhootni' track, 'Jethalal' too returned to the show. Now, the duo also attended the show’s 17th anniversary celebration.
Dilip Joshi attended the red-carpet event alongside his wife, Jaymala. For the event, Dilip wore a pink-hued striped shirt and paired it with grey trousers. Jaymala looked elegant wearing a peach-hued salwar kameez. On the other hand, Munmun appeared on the red carpet with her mom. She dazzled in a white shirt, paired with a vibrant, multi-colour short skirt.
Kush Shah, who earlier played the role of 'Goli', also joined the celebration of TMKOC. For the unversed, Kush left the show in 2024, to pursue higher studies. His decision to leave the show broke many hearts as fans got to see him grow up through the show. He was in the 5th standard when he started working in TMKOC. In an old podcast with Just Kidding with Sid, Kush shared why he left the show and how he started his journey with TMKOC. In his words:
"I miss being on sets because that is my home. But I had to take this decision for me because I turned 27 and I felt this is the time to do something. I was in 5th class when I started doing Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. We used to sit with Dilip sir with scripts in our hands and would improvise. I started learning from him as a kid and enjoyed it. I have learnt a lot, especially from Bhide (Mandar) uncle and Dilip sir."
TMKOC’s 17th anniversary celebration was nothing less than glorious. Other than Dilip Joshi, Munmun Dutta, and Kush Shah, the cast includes Mandar Chandwadkar, who plays 'Bhide'; Sonalika Joshi, who plays 'Madhavi Bhabi'; Shyam Pathak, who plays 'Popatlal'; Balwinder Singh, who plays 'Roshan Sodhi', among many more who attended the star-studded event. Amit Bhatt, who plays 'Chachiji', father of 'Jethalal', also attended the red carpet event alongwith with his real-life wife. Amit looked handsome in a formal suit and appeared totally different from his usual character.
