Sushmita Sen is one of the coolest actresses of all time. The actress made India proud by bringing home the first Miss Universe crown. Later, at the age of twenty-three, Sushmita challenged society and became a mother by adopting her first child, Rene Sen. However, not many people know Sushmita was schooled once by her parents for using the word 'sex' in an interview.
Recently, Sushmita sat for an interview with Rhea Chakraborty for her podcast. She talked about many things, and also revealed an interesting episode with her parents. She revealed that the society was not as open when she was growing up. She revealed that everything was looked upon with 'haww'. Sushmita further revealed how her parents had schooled her for using the word 'sex' in an interview with Shobhaa De. She said:
"The society was not as open as today. It was like ‘haw.’ Everything was ‘haww’ to the extent that my Maa and Baba had to sit me down and say, ‘There is a lot riding on your shoulders and curb a little bit of what you’re saying. Why use the word ‘sex’ in an interview at 18? Shobhaa De’s writing badly about you.’ And I remember her name coming up specifically, you know, Bengali. Bengalis are considered intellectual. So, it was the intellectual articles that were bothering and not the gossip ones."

In the same podcast, Sushmita Sen revealed her conversations with her daughters are different and more open when it comes to 'sex'. She stated that she never had to explain it, as they are PhDs, and her younger daughter, Alisah, is studying biology and knows all the terminology. Sushmita shared:
"The act of sex, I didn’t have to explain (to my daughters). They’re already PhDs (sic), all of them are. My younger one is into biology. So, she will get into terminologies, and I’m like, Okay, can we please keep it very generic? We don’t have to discuss the technicalities of it."
Sushmita Sen revealed that she told her daughters only one thing in life, and that was to 'equate' the act of getting intimate with respect. She further stated that she is no one to teach them the right time, as it is there own personal choice. She was quoted as saying:
“You can explore yourself and your desires, there’s no problem with that. But, in the end, it should not make you feel bad because that’s important. And, don’t do it out of peer pressure. You have to do it because you want that."
