Sulakshana Pandit, the veteran singer and actress, passed away, leaving the industry mourning. For the unversed, she took her last breath on November 6, 2025. She was 71 years old when she left for the heavenly abode. In 1975, she made her acting debut with the suspense thriller, Uljhan, opposite Sanjeev Kumar. Besides being a phenomenal actress, Sulakshana was widely known for her soulful voice. She worked as the playback singer in many Hindi cinemas. The disheartening news of her demise was confirmed by her brother, Lalit Pandit.
According to a report by TOI, Sulakshana Pandit took her last breath on November 6, 2025, at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital after a prolonged illness. The cause of death is cardiac arrest. Speaking to Mid-Day, Sulakshana’s brother, Lalit Pandit, confirmed the heartbreaking news and also shared details about her funeral. He was quoted as saying:
"She passed away today around 8.00 pm. She suffered cardiac arrest. Her funeral will be tomorrow, November 7, 2025, at 12.00 noon."

Sulakshana Pandit was born on July 12, 1954, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. She belonged to a family with a rich musical heritage. She was the niece of legendary classical vocalist, Pandit Jasraj and sister to the music composer duo, Jatin-Lalit. Music played an integral part in her upbringing. She began singing at a tender age of nine and made her playback debut in 1967. She was well known for her soulful voice and sang Tu Hi Sagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara from Sankalp.

This work helped her in winning both the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer and the Miyan Tansen Award in 1975. She was also known for the duet Saat Samandar Paar Se with legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar from Taqdeer. Alongside her glorifying musical career, Sulakshana stepped into acting and became one of the most popular actresses of the 1970s and 1980s. In 1975, she made her acting debut in the Hindi cinema, Uljhan.

In this film, she shared screen space with Sanjeev Kumar. She later appeared in many successful films like Sankoch, Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan, and Waqt Ki Deewar. Known for her strong screen presence, impressive charm, and powerful performance, Sulakshana featured opposite top actors including Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha. Her versatility as both a singer and an actress made her a beloved figure in Hindi cinema.

Sulakshana Pandit remained unmarried all her life because of her deep love and admiration for her Uljhan co-star, Sanjeev Kumar. The actress reportedly fell in love with the actor while they worked together on the film, Uljhan. However, Sanjeev Kumar was in love with Sholay actress, Hema Malini, who had rejected his marriage proposal. Later, Sulakshana proposed to Sanjeev Kumar, but he declined. His rejection made her heartbroken, and she chose never to marry anyone else. After Sanjeev Kumar’s demise in 1985, Sulakshana became shattered and gradually distanced herself from the film industry.
